Take it from a former semi driver who “blinked out” on the interstate and came-to 1.5 lanes over from where he’d been… take great care with driving beyond the point when you’re fighting sleep.

Take a rest stop when you need to, get out, walk around a bit.

Well my PK-88 Terminal Node Controller still powers on and flashes its LEDs during boot after being in storage since the early 90s!

Now I’ve just got to…

A) get it connected to a transceiver

B) find a DB9-DB25 RS232 adapter in my old bag of serial cable kit

C) persuade lots of amateurs that they too want to recreate the 1200 baud Packet Radio network we had in the 90s before The Internet

I'd actually bought a little green-screen dumb terminal to use with packet.

I've changed housing thrice since then. I have almost zero things from those days, ham or otherwise. Pretty much only hand tools.

Very much appreciate the heads-up (or reminder, more so). I saw this toot at about 30 min old. I shut down JS8Call & started fldigi. I started POTAto app and watched for your callsign to appear. Not long after it did, I noticed it, clicked it, and it instantly moved my radio to your freq.

Nothing.

The propagation faeries were not on my side today.

Will keep trying... when I remember.

THREAD: This is harrowing. Saudi Arabia wanted the names of 6000 anonymous Arab Spring dissidents from Twitter. At first, MBS tried to get their names using EDRs - requests under emergency circumstances. When that proved cumbersome, KSA basically bought Twitter.

▪️They did so by threatening to pull twitter out of their market (biggest in the Middle East) and by offering to invest in heavily in Twitter. They also positioned two spies inside Twitter who helped funnel the personal information on dissidents out of Twitter to KSA

▪️In 2011, they invested $300M. In 2022, MBS bought that investment for $1.5B, worth $1.9B later that year, making KSA (The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) the biggest shareholder of Twitter behind Elon Musk.

▪️The two KSA spies inside Twitter INFORMED Twitter that the personally identifying information they were gathering was for the Saudi Government. One received money and gifts from the KSA in exchange for the user data including $300K and a nice job after he fled the US.

I'm not shedding any tears for the tourism industry. They share plenty of blame, forever pushing the idea that you're abnormal if you don't get on a plane and fly hundreds or thousands of miles at least once a year.

Hrmph.

I've seen a few impressive tiny homes made from shipping containers.

Gives me an idea...

Get a shipping container.

Make it a tiny house, stocked with enough food, etc. to last a few weeks.

Have it shipped to e.g. Sweden or Spain - with me in it.

As a violinist, I play many gigs. Recently I was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless man. He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a pauper's cemetery in the Dorset back country.

As I was not familiar with the country lanes, I got lost and, being a typical man, I didn't stop for directions.

I finally arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guys had evidently gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight. There were only the diggers and crew left and they were eating lunch.

I felt bad and apologised to the men for being late. I went to the side of the grave and looked down and the vault lid was already in place. I didn't know what else to do, so I started to play.

The workers put down their lunches and began to gather around. I played out my heart and soul for this man with no family and friends.

I played like I've never played before for this homeless man.

And as I played 'Amazing Grace,' the workers began to weep. They wept, I wept, we all wept together. When I finished I packed up my violin and started for my car. Though my head hung low, my heart was full.

As I opened the door to my car, I heard one of the workers say, "I never seen nothin' like that before and I've been putting in septic tanks for twenty years."

As a semi-pro musician (a long time back), I've played several weddings, countless chuch services, a couple concerts...

And was supposed to play at one huge funeral, but my wife called me while I was on my way from work to the rehearsal - her car wouldn't start, and the decedent was our kids' youth pastor. More important for THEM to be there, than for me to play in the band. So I missed out on that gig.

So I felt this. I felt this deeply right up to the last goddamned line.

There are notable stories of US Political leaders who didn't want the job. Resisted being put into power, but humbly accepted the responsibility, temporarily.

If we could re-write the Constitutions (Federal and State) such that it effectively decreased the likelihood that anyone would ever become a Career Politician, that could go a long way.

Idea: everyone is required to serve 2y in their 20s, and 4y in their 40s, & make it EASY to toss folks out for ethics violations, etc.
