Been thinking of doing some project based on assumptions that we’ve all accepted about the internet and software in business (+the business of software). Things that were arbitrary decisions at some point in history but then got integrated into the status quo and never got questioned since, because that’s “how things work” or “how computers function”.

Would that be interesting? Would appreciate ideas and any source recommendations!

I’ve been staying very quiet on the situation in Israel and Palestine right now because this conflict is as far from black and white as can be.

Is Hamas a terrorist organization? Yes.

Have the Jewish people faced awful and completely unjustified persecution and hatred throughout too long of a history? Yes.

Is Israel also a colonial and brutally oppressive regime? Yes.

Are Palestinians suffering right now? Yes.

There is no good answer.

The whole #Nobel prize situation with Katalin Karikó, who was previously pushed out of #UPenn and forced to become an adjunct would be deeply funny except… I’m all too familiar with the exploitation of being an adjunct professor.

My mother is a literal refugee from #Ukraine who teaches at #Cornell as an adjunct - she STARTED their Ukrainian program. Her classes get over enrolled in within a day with tons of demand. Students love her.

She had to fight for her health insurance 🥲🥲🥲

You do not need an algorithm for social media to work.

This is Mastodon - posts here get shared only through users following, replying to, and resharing them. And yet, here we are. Hundreds and hundreds of shares.

Less than a day into me posting something. I don't have a huge platform, only 2.5k followers, and yet if I post something you, real human users, resonate with – it can do so well.

Algorithm-free social media IS effective.

Do not let anyone convince you that the Republicans who voted against funding aid for #Ukraine are in any way, shape, or form, giving a crap about #democracy.

My country is currently fighting for its very existence against a fascist and genocidal foreign power. Cutting aid to us IS a vote for fascist dictatorship. Support for Ukraine and defense against #RussianInvasion IS support for freedom.

What I hate the most about being sick is the feeling that I will never have more energy or be able to enjoy / do things again.

My brain just defaults to a mode of "this is how our body is now, forever" and doesn't believe me no matter how much I logically know that those limitations are temporary.

And then the second I start recovering, I feel like I've been born again "wait, we can actually sit in a chair or walk for 10 minutes without collapsing? We don't have to stay in bed forever?"
