Well shit... Meta just entered the W3C Social Web Incubator chat:

"What can Meta do to support the fediverse? How can we ensure our entry to this ecosystem is a positive thing that helps grow the community? How can we support this standard? These are the questions in my mind, and I'm really keen to start discussing this with all of you."

Reading long threads on Mastodon sucks, but it really shouldn't.

The next @woollyapp update will provide a dedicated screen to comfortably enjoy lengthy threads.

Too many people, even here on Mastodon, seem to be in denial about how bad things are likely to get on our current path. I suppose I can understand how they might wish the situation was different, and perhaps some of them aren't psychologically or emotionally ready to handle an honest look at the dire future we face, so they simply avoid it.

But I worry that almost everyone will be unprepared for the collapse of our fragile modern society when it comes.

@jackofalltrades @YaRo @breadandcircuses 💯 And it’s hard to comprehend why this isn’t the only thing that anyone is ever talking about or working on.

There is nothing more critical. If we could really treat the emergency with the attention that it demands we could at least produce some less-bad outcomes.

We’re literally headed towards a mass-extinction event and calling it by its name is considered “alarmism.”

Reminder:
The "Freedom" Convoy donated $460,000 to Pierre Poilievre's leadership campaign.
That's why he won't renounce them. They bought him. Imagine a so-called national leader aligning with a group of domestic terrorists."

Well, I don't have a lemon for this caesar salad dressing but I do have a grapefruit and a lime so let's see where life takes us I guess.

I feel like this is leading up to one of those recipe blog comments that scans like, I'm a vegetarian but I eat tarantulas so I replaced the chicken in this recipe with a tarantula and also I don't have salt or flour so I substituted drywall plaster for both and it came out terrible bad recipe one star.

@mhoye you have to report back on the success of your new “grapefruit lime Caesar” recipe

One thing to remember about the Bud Light controversy and their declining sales:

Bud Light is bad beer. It's ALWAYS been bad beer.

@petergleick The picture contains an image of a product called “Bud Light SELTZER,” and I wonder if there is any discernible difference in taste between this product and regular Bud Light.

Somehow the Venn diagram of people who believe that social networks violate the “free speech” rights of conservatives and people who believe that books about gender, sexuality or race issues should be banned from libraries is a perfect circle.

Stupidest timeline.

A sombre anniversary.

It was a year ago today that the new home we purchased burned down.

We are incredibly grateful that no one was injured in the fire, and are extremely fortunate to have a good insurance company and a policy that is big enough to meet our needs.

Re-construction will begin tomorrow! With a bit of luck we’ll be in the new place by the end of the year.

I can not stress this enough: make sure your home insurance is enough to cover a complete loss.

A pretty disingenuous comparison between Nostr, Bluesky, and “Mastodon”.

Sure, “anyone” can generate a public/private key. Now how many people will actually do that? And how many will use the public/private key to port their account to a different device?

Moreover, choosing a server is not a requirement for “Mastodon”—and now Mastodon itself pushes a default.

Do I like default servers? Not at all. But that’s another matter entirely.

I used to be able to find stuff I wanted to buy on Google.

Its now just all ad placement. Ads I don't need for stuff I don't want.

When did this happen?

mick,
@mick@cosocial.ca avatar

@EricCarroll classic “” cycle, as described by @pluralistic

The value of Google used to flow to the users, who benefited from high quality search results.

Then to advertisers, who could buy the attention of users with well-positioned ads.

Having become the only real game in town, now all the value is extracted by Google, pitting advertisers against one another in a race to the bottom.

Is this really great with the right sound system?

Or is this the audio equivalent of 3D movies?
