The younger people here might not remember how dramatically better a form factor the iPad 2 was over the original iPad. It was hard to believe it was a year-over-year update; at the time, Samsung even halted its imminent Galaxy Tab 10.1 launch in a panic and went back to the drawing board to try and achieve something closer to the iPad design.

I think perhaps Vision Pro 2 needs to be an iPad 2; make the [inevitable] competitors panic.

@stroughtonsmith I expect both form factor improvements and I think the use cases are going to evolve similar to the apple watch as clever app developers help us all find where this product fits into our lives. I can't wait to justify buying one!

I will say, like @stroughtonsmith, I have concerns about the lack of an Apple event around Vision Pro and the seeming "drop it with a press release" nature of the release. For a brand new product category, that raises a lot of questions.

@jeffjarvis They’ve also stuffed their podcasts with a ridiculous amount of ads. Some of the shorter ones have more minutes of ads than content. Some ads are being jammed in mid-sentence.

Been thinking about Beeper Mini and blue/green bubbles:

  • If I was an investor, I'd be worried about someone else copying this (solution is open source, yes?)

  • And then I'd worry about Apple. This is a bet that Apple will not come after them with deep legal pockets.

  • Or that Apple will flip a secret switch (or whatever) to break the connection.

General opinion is that that last is impossible, but I would not bet against Apple here.

Opinions?

@davemark even if Apple doesn't flip a secret switch, I can see it frequently breaking as apple changes their service. This isn't a documented, versioned public API. Reverse engineered solutions are often fragile.

    Apple's whole App Store model, which defines a huge chunk of the modern world, relies on a chain of trust and safety based on individuals internal to Apple, with no external oversight. What happens when a future Apple CEO, or head of App Store, decides to act inappropriately, anticompetitively, or maliciously, or to put in place structures that disadvantage some developers in favor of others (or Apple)? This is why regulation and external accountability is essential

    @reginagrogan I love mine. There my goto for loud activities: leaf blowing, snow blowing, etc. Apple gives me the least security/privacy worries. Alexa, Siri, & Google all have ears here.
