Can you guess how lobbyists acted while was on fire this summer?

and lobbyists met with the government 131 times to promote their interests, lobbying for:

  1. Delaying and weakening critical climate policies
  2. Pushing for exceptions, delays and loopholes in the Clean Electricity Regulations
  3. Asking for billions of dollars in government subsidies and financial guarantees

From Boys to Men: The Road to Healing by Anthony Gebrehiwot

The series of large-scale photographs exposes the necessary labour of unpacking learned behaviour attached to childhood trauma.

The metaphors meant through the selection of colour, texture, and emotional expression encourage the viewer to place themself within the poetry of masculine fragility.

Some appreciations and thank-yous to end an otherwise gloomy weekend

  • to everyone who makes and shares beautiful photos, artworks, and creations of all kinds
  • to everyone who tries to connect with others through curiosity, generosity, and compassion
  • to everyone who speaks out on behalf of the marginalised and vulnerable
  • to everyone who grapples out loud with their difficult, painful, human experiences

I hope you know who you are and how much you matter

Canada's federal system has kept Indigenous people over-incarcerated for too long, watchdog says in second part of a two-year investigation.

10 years ago 25% of federal inmates were Indigenous people: now it's 32%.

The steady and unabated increase in the disproportionate representation of peoples under federal sentence is nothing short of a national travesty and remains one of 's most pressing challenges

"Dismantling the myth that ancient slavery ‘wasn’t that bad’"

The picture of slavery that most Americans are familiar with was deeply shaped by modern racism and capitalism.

But other forms of slavery throughout human history were no less “real.”

Understanding them and their causes may help challenge slavery today and in the future – especially at a time when some politicians are again claiming transatlantic slavery actually benefited enslaved people.

Some thoughts on "parents rights" - and why Conservatives focus on them 🧵

I've read a lot of posts and articles about so-called #ParentsRights.

They point out that politicians in #Canada use the phrase to:

  • diminish #ChildrensRights
  • cause or perpetuate harm to #LGBTQ individuals
  • gain support from religious groups
  • copy tactics used in the USA
  • demonstrate #transphobia
  • splinter LGBTQ solidarity
  • denigrate public education

All valid points - and maybe missing something?

Greenbelt 2.0? 's boundary changes in and could make developers rich

Changes benefiting developers were made on the same day last November that the GTA changes were announced.

City boundary expansions turned certain parcels of agricultural land from rural to urban, opening them up to future housing and increasing their potential value.

Both city councils want the government to reconsider the changes.

"Part of what we're also seeing right now in terms of people struggling to survive is the fact that the minimum wage should have actually been closer to 18 dollars [already]"

Labour advocates and opposition critics have said Ontario should introduce a $20 minimum wage.

The Ontario Living Wage Network says a living wage in the Greater Toronto Area is around $23 an hour.

Invoking the notwithstanding clause is an admission the government knows its actions will not withstand Charter scrutiny.

The notwithstanding clause is the nuclear option. Using it to destroy the rights of students is unconscionable.

The notwithstanding clause is not a weapon that should be used to strip anyone of their rights, let alone vulnerable and marginalized students.
