Given that Mastodon now has an ex Twitter founder board member and Bluesky does not.
Are we being consequential and move over to Bluesky or was that reason against Bluesky and ATP just a petty argument because of "not invented here" syndrome?
Both are open source solutions and from a technical perspective I think ATproto is the much better designed system for a decentralized social network.
Self hosting for yourself is actually viable on ATproto without being a hobby SysAdmin.
@mivox@Axomamma@lor Yes as suggested by others as well and would agree switching would be better. Several weeks ago tried to go through several instances on the first page but they are mostly filled with them so gave up. Also sucks to lose everything. I've started filter them but that's starting to be lots of work
I saw a Bluesky post in my Mastodon feed, so I replied from Mastodon, and that reply showed up on Mastodon AND Bluesky!!!
The post is boring, so I'm not going to link it, but I will encourage my Mastodon friends to enable cross platform sharing. More info here https://fed.brid.gy/docs#fediverse-get-started@snarfed.org@snarfed.org for building this tool. I have a few friends on Bsky that I miss following, hopefully I can get them to opt-in.
@rabble discovery and interaction can be an issue especially for new users to activitypub. They may not know that without interactions with others, they will not be seen. Or that they did get a reply but it wasn't visible on their post
Good addition even if it's on the Threads side ... and I'm curious why many fediverse apps still can't get the correct post and follower count but it works with threads? Is it compatibility between Mastodon, Pixelfed, Misskey apps? @Gargron
@BeAware@Gargron Hmmm not sure because if I view threads profile even from another instance that have not discovered it, the profile details (followers and post count) are consistent
I get that Pixelfed can be seen by some as "unfinished" or "missing features" but consider this, most feature requests have been implemented, some of the big ones:
Photo filters (web + app)
Official Mobile app
Spam mitigation (Autospam)
MastoAPI support (you can use any mastodon app with Pixelfed)
From what I can tell, you are working on: sups, loops, hosted service along with managing several other sites. You are spread thin so many concerns are about prioritizing and addressing issues rather than missing features
@reiver@ticho@techgeeklife@mdiluz it will ask you to connect to Mastodon and then you will need to create a new Pixelfed account. You still have to manage two different accounts
@reiver@ticho@techgeeklife@mdiluz similar to Google/Apple/Facebook sign in. Bluesky also has something similar by using one app password to sign in to multiple sites
@Jeremiah Good to hear EU is trying to do something about messaging interoperability. Do you know why did they decided on at least 45 million active users? I think starting at 1 million is more than fair
Serious question. Is it a complicated process to get the desktop emoji picker to play nice with dark mode? It seems Mastodon and Bluesky both have this problem
@brawaru Thanks sounds simple enough so maybe there is a bug in the emoji library that prevents both Mastodon and Bluesky from using the dark mode? I just forced browser dark mode and still looks like this
