@RickiTarr I wore black tees and jeans sometimes in high school because I knew I was too unrepentently sinful and bisexual for my Catholic upbringing to work. I figured my soul was black, so I should show it.

I parted ways with religion long ago now. I think humanism and DEI is better. I like jewel tones and tie dye, but I prefer black jeans and still wear black shirts sometimes.

is by itself my biggest frustration with using Linux as a daily driver.

I wonder if it's simple enough I could fix it myself. Cracking into X Windows code feels like putting my hand in the garbage disposal but I think I know why it's happening

@mcc Good bug report. Once, ThinkPads were popular for devs and well supported. Today, I dunno. The problem could be anywhere in the stack... kernel driver, event lib, tslib (if used), windowing system mouse driver (probably Wayland rather than X in Ubuntu23.10), or desktop. If the TouchPad works fine for other uses and buggy only here, it's probably the fault of the upper layers of the stack. To recreate, fixer will need exact HW description and kernel boot lines relating to pointing device.

I loved 's expeditionary contraption stories as a kid, including the gripping adventure that is Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. I still have a fond spot for the 1954 film of the same name, although I now acknowledge how terribly racist these fantasies of Western Europe and America are. But some parts still inspire. With deeper understanding we may still take something good from that, like did.

Long night so far.

A call from my sister just after midnight that she’d taken mum to the hospital.

Been holding bedside vigil while sister goes home and gets some sleep. Doctors running tests and whatnot. Morphine for the pain. Machines that go “bing”.

It’s about 4:30am and mum’s snoring with a plethora of tubes and wires.

Eyes are heavy. Chair is uncomfortable. The nurses showed me where I could make a cup of coffee for myself.

Okay, let me try to ask this question, in a coherent way!

When we hear certain kinds of music, arrangements and tones, we associate them with feelings and emotions, like this sounds magical or whimsical, this sounds bouncy and happy, or dark and tragic. Do you think that is this is innate, like the combination of certain notes and tones just illicit these feelings in most people or is it because we've seen it related to these kinds of emotions on the radio or in movies and TV?

@RickiTarr We are socially trained to associate feelings with music. I remember one musicologist commenting how a visitor to a foreign land noted a certain tune was so bright, cheerful and catchy, but the locals explained it was in fact a terribly sad funeral dirge.

A few weeks ago, during an IKEA run for my brother's move, we picked up one of those white sheepskin for our cats who love to lay on the sofa. Turns out the cats aren't that interested in it. However, it reminds me - out of the corner of my eye - that our white longhair cat Maggie passed away last year, and I still miss her. So, it's good for practicing my grief.

Okay, picking up from my video game post yesterday, I'm curious:

When you play video games, rpgs, ect, where you get to choose your character, do you tend to choose a character of the same sex, the opposite sex, non-binary, anthropomorphic, or a mysterious 4th option?

If you want to share screenshots of character builds I would enjoy that!

@RickiTarr In the Sims 4 I have a tendency to play female characters, especially lesbian vampires that become friends with Lilith Vatore. In the old Wurm Online MMO crafting game though I tend to play male characters. I think a lot has to do with the fun clothing styles Sims get and the intense social interaction with the AIs required to advance stories. I am seemingly more comfortable doing that as a girl. #sims #sims4 #vampire #WurmOnline #lesbian #gaming

@enmodo @JenLucPiquant Dobbs is an unconstitutional ruling in Pennsylvania because of the equal rights guaranteed women in a state constitution amendment. Likewise in my Oregon state constitution Article 1 section 46 "Prohibition on denial or abridgment of rights on account of sex" was ratified in 2014. In our states and many other blue states with equal rights for women, Dobbs is an unconstitutional ruling.

    @DrALJONES it's heartbreaking when people in power over my position say that to follow one's religion one must be pro-violence and pro-genocide against other people. I would likely make the same decision as the article writer. Color me pro-humanity.
