Working on a new @pixelfed resource website, in between other things.
We already have a Help Center built in to every pixelfed instance but it's more difficult to update across instances, translate and doesn't have search, this will do all that and more!
In this week’s #Linux and #OpenSource News video, we have the new #Ubuntu App Store that will demote deb packages, we have the alpha of #GNOME 45, and #Fedora proposing to add telemetry in a future release.
@thelinuxEXP Wow Gnome is really killing it, this update on the contrary to what you said, is kinda huge because everything is under the hood, really excited to see it come to Fedora and Nobara ( my favorite Distros ) ( Nobara usually takes 2 months period to get updated )
also, hope things settle in France, these riots and invasive surveillance laws ( I mean they already arrested 7 people for nothing ) is really concerning, and I don't wanna sound pessimistic , but these are the signs of collapse ( guys on r/collapse would def agree ), but you're doing your part by getting the message out there, most people don't care about privacy, and laws like these pass because they don't get that much coverage and again people don't care
Did you know that each Mastodon server has its own custom emoji?
Each server admin can upload images :cate: or animations :rickroll: which are available to anyone on that server. Ask your admin if you want a particular emoji added to your server.
To access them on an app, click the app's own emoji button (usually a smiley 😃 ). For normal emoji, click the picker on your phone's keyboard.
To access them on the web, click the emoji picker in the post writing box (which looks like this 😂 ).
Curious about how our newly launched password manager, Proton Pass, works?
Here's a short video that shows the main features in #ProtonPass and all the ways it makes you more secure online. Proton Pass is open-source, end-to-end encrypted, and available for free.
@brainblasted I would say, yes @protonmail is worth the hassle, they actually are making an effort in making their products look good and perform well, instead of just using privacy as selling point, ( which doesn't work for most people, unfortunately ), who ever is making their UX and branding def deserve a raise
@thelinuxEXP It will have it's own audience eventually ( mostly Apple fanboys and Youtubers like MKBHD hyping it for them ), but I doubt any free software advocate or privacy conscious person would buy that thing.
like you said before, "they don't solve any problem", why would I put a VR headset to have an online meeting ( where people don't have legs 😂 ), while I can do it in jitsi
We all have preconceived notions about #privacy on our desktop operating systems. But how much data does #Windows, #macOS, and even #Linux really collect?
Let’s look at all the things they know about you, what they do with the data, and how you can disable most, or all of that:
@thelinuxEXP saying they ( #microsoft & #apple ) need Personal Identifiable information ( Aka Telemetry ) to fix their OS, is like saying I need to know where you went with your vehicle? who was riding with you? what did you guys/girls talk about ? what are you carrying inside your trunk ? in order for me to fix the Engine 🤷♂️
