So... I've been back in for a week and honestly I'm just depressed. Neverending everywhere, people having to drive 15hrs to get to emergency centres. Absolutely unreal, and yet it isn't.

On top of that, my fave summertime hobby, , is dead, since I simply cannot be outside anymore due to the . I got nine bites in twenty minutes last week and the following days were hell. They bite through clothes and bug spray 🧵 1/x

Soooo yyyeeaaah. Started feeling absolutely rotten yesterday. Unreal headaches and joint pains. Hot cold hot cold. Now minor cough and congestion.

We made it three years and eight months without this shi... I'm a bit bummed to say the least.

when I bought this bike, I was still in school and needed a simple, inexpensive bike that would get me from A to B. bonus points for offering my first foray into single-speed/fixed gear riding (it has a flip-flop hub!)

tbh I did not think this bike was going to last this long!! whether for wear & tear or theft reasons.

these are the original tires, if you can believe it. absolutely nuts how sturdy this guy is.

  • I feel more human again. all symptoms are gone except a dry cough
  • my sense of taste has made a triumphant return. I HAAAAATED the three and a bit days where I could taste absolutely NOTHING

Sooo went to grab groceries this morning, and as we're next in line for the checkout, the / machines go down🙃

A couple folks had to return their stuff and left without making a purchase. If my spouse hadn't had a bit of cash in his wallet, we'd have had to do the same thing 🫠 (store has no ATM.)

I haven't handled cash in... years? but a result, I will now carry more than $5 emergency cash in my wallet....

How it is not an absolute emergency situation when >1 million people have had nothing but toxic air to breathe for 3+ days, I will never understand.

The minimum US EPA PM2.5 we've had over the last three days was just over 100.

The healthy 24hr maximum is 50. Our minimum has been twice that.

I haven't seen the sun in three days. This feels absolutely apocalyptic and I'm finding it harder and harder to cope.

Listen I love , but we 1000% need more of this type of outdoor seating and activity space that is quiet and entirely separated from cars. A Fußgängerzone, essentially.

This picture also illustrates nicely why when people say "let's have a beer on the patio" and the "patio" is three feet wide and next to a four-lane urban highway I will probably not join them

welp -- for the first time in 3.5 years, we've got some sort of flu-like bug in the house. spouse is sick with sore throat, coughing, congestion 😟 so far all rapid tests have come back neg, so who knows what on earth we've dragged in. it started over the Thanksgiving weekend (great timing) - probably from work.

we keep to separate parts of the house, have windows open frequently, run the air purifier, etc.

so far, I've got no symptoms - whatever he's got, I don't want it!
