Tell me a silly/funny childhood story!

I'll start:

One time in Sunday School, the teacher was talking about the difference between humans and animals, and mentioned that Animals had Tails and humans didn't. I let her know this was not true, because my Dad had a tail, just in the front, instead of the back. The teacher was silent for several seconds, and tried to correct me in a church appropriate way, but I doubled down, and insisted that my little brothers also had front tails too. This got so heated that the teacher had to go get my parents to take me out of Sunday School.

@BravishkaSkytano @RickiTarr my sister and i used to play "nose flute" while we were grocery shopping with mom and it would make her laugh so hard she'd be crying. she'd try to blurt out "stop it!!!" through her hysterical laughter but of course that only made us do it more.

i can barely describe what "nose flute" is with words that make any sense. um... imagine humming a tune while plugging your nose, and with each note you sorta twang one nostril open and close it rapidly... like i said, that hardly makes sense without actually demonstrating it in person... 🤣🤣🤣

Truly and honestly, I have a great time here, because you all make it great. You boost, you reply, you encourage, and inspire! It is crazy to me that I get to talk to people from all over the world every day. I get to be friends with people I'll probably never actually get to physically meet. I was born into a pre-internet world, and this still feels a little like a miracle to me.

@kerouac666 @RickiTarr when walmart tried to expand into germany, the workers were like "what do you mean i don't get a chair? how do you expect me to stand all day, this is ridiculous." and the unions in germany don't mess around. ultimately walmart just gave up and pulled out -- we'd rather pay our cashiers super shitty wages and make them stand all day than accommodate you snooty europeans who think you deserve to be treated like humans even though it costs us more. the nerve, honestly!

@RickiTarr i'm too old to have been emo, though i would have been goth if i'd know it existed -- however, i grew up in a cornfield. gothed out in college a little. used to goth up for clubs. haven't done that in ages though. this is from january 2020, probably after the last huge kink event i was at before the whole world fell apart.

We give such weird advice to kids. I remember being 12, and very shy, and people would tell me to just be myself. Now 30 years later, I'm 42, and still trying to figure that out.

@RickiTarr my mother was well into her 50s (at least) before she realized that her kids might end up having very different lives than she did. never occurred to her we might not just get married and stay home with the kids like she did. or that we might want something else, or decide on something different -- until we did, and she eventually just had to come to terms with it. and by the time she did, the damage had been done long beforehand. i understand it now but it doesn't mean i'm still not angry as hell about the gaping lack of encouragement or guidance etc etc etc.

my sister once returned to a house my family had rented when we were really, really little -- it had been abandoned a long time and the floor was caving in here and there. she went into what had been our bedroom and found a business-card sized bit of paper jammed into the built-in desk -- our dad had written something on it for her long ago. ❤️

Sometimes it feels like I'm this animal that has all these weird emotions that my brain and body are just not evolved enough to handle. I'm doing the best I can, I just know more stuff than I have the capacity to reckon. Understanding my place in the Universe and knowing that it is both significant and completely insignificant at the same time, is the strangest feeling. The truth is I've always been an old lady, I want to go to a bar at 4 in the afternoon, and listen to great music, but it can't be too loud, I want a couple good drinks, and leave before it gets too busy, so I can have dinner, and get back home. I need to have plenty of time to watch Godzilla movies in my PJ's, and snug before my first pre-bed nap.

@MarkRDavid @RickiTarr oh man, my parents modeled the pre-nap for me way early on. dad would fall asleep in the recliner with the tv on; mom would be on the sofa with a crossword or something and nodding off. 8:30 or 9 would roll around and inevitably one would wake up and go "oh, guess i woke up just in time to go to bed..." 😆

obviously i followed right in their footsteps...

I talk to people from the UK pretty regularly, I watch a lot of BBC programming, I read a lot of books by authors from the UK, but sometimes they will suddenly use a word I've never heard in my life, and I'm beginning to think they are pranking us, and every other person from the UK is in on the joke, and just validates whatever the other person says!

Part of our members & us, with our (holding new paddle). We train every Saturday morning, from .

Today, we worked on more race stops, transitions & on improving team timing/synchronization.

I led a good warm-up before we started & was put into front near end of practice. Our coach is also training me on doing drumming/calling out paddle beats so I can go on multiple boats for races. Our first race is May 26th!

@StillIRise1963 seems to be par for the course at this point. just went in for a physical and my NP pooped in the door, saw me wearing my mask, and was like "oh, would you prefer i wear a mask?" i didn't even bother hiding my annoyance and said "uhm, YEAH," drawing the word out to two syllables in my best surly teenager accent. don't remember if i rolled my eyes, but they tend to have a mind of their own, so i probably did.

Families in Groote Eylandt and the Indonesian port of Makassar are working on tracing family connections. The Makassan trepang and pearl hunting work in northern Australian waters a couple of hundred years ago led to travel between the two places, marriages and children.
