The bald eagle could have easily gone extinct. But we did all sorts of "woke" things protecting it legally, ran conservation and study programs, banned DDT (that was good for other reasons too) and in 2007 they were removed from the endangered species list.
Likewise pine forests could be dead from acid rain.
The ozone could have a huge hole.
We CAN take care of nature when we want to. And the successes have been worth it.
@futurebird consider: the bald eagle is a symbol of the US, its mascot, imaged on money, official seals and all sorts of government stuff. to let it go extinct would have been a national embarrassment -- therefore the phenomenal effort to find the cause of its demise (DDT) and eradicate it, despite any concerns about lost profits to whatever corporation was manufacturing it.
So, this was released today. My third stamp with Canada Post. Qarlinngua (The pants). And technically my second stamp with a family member in it, as the tiny figure in it is my son Travis. Now for one with Hilary in it.
I’ve very proud of all of these, beyond the cache. They are about my home, and family. And also my family has a long history with the Post Office, 101 years. My grandfather, father, and brother were all postmasters in Roblin. #Nunavut#Arctic#Stamps#philately#CanadaPost
Today, we worked on more race stops, transitions & on improving team #paddling timing/synchronization.
I led a good warm-up before we started & was put into front near end of practice. Our coach is also training me on doing drumming/calling out paddle beats so I can go on multiple boats for races. Our first race is May 26th!
If you get mad when you see employees at a business you are patronizing laughing, enjoying each other's company, and goofing off, you're a dick. Empathize with people working a shitty underpaid job, and let them enjoy what little fun they get.
@kerouac666@RickiTarr when walmart tried to expand into germany, the workers were like "what do you mean i don't get a chair? how do you expect me to stand all day, this is ridiculous." and the unions in germany don't mess around. ultimately walmart just gave up and pulled out -- we'd rather pay our cashiers super shitty wages and make them stand all day than accommodate you snooty europeans who think you deserve to be treated like humans even though it costs us more. the nerve, honestly!
@bryanhansel super windy and stormy in duluth today... i live up the hill in the trees now, so i haven't seen the lake, but i bet it's super scary down there. same for GM today?
@dyani thanks for this. i've been on some heavy-duty pharmaceuticals for many years and i am trying to reduce but it's tough. i got rid of seroquel because it's a terrible drug, but i have trouble sleeping all the way through the night without it. i still take 4mg of lunesta, and 75mg of trazodone (which i increased from 50mg to make up for the absence of seroquel), but i'm afraid i'm gonna have to bump up to 100mg because i am just not sleeping well these days.
my new psychiatrist is not thrilled about my massive drug regimen (i also take 3 antidepressants and a mood stabilizer) and wants me to cut down on things. i'm like, if it worked, i'd be glad to, but... 🙄
@dyani i've never actually tried using antihistamines. my main problem isn't getting to sleep, it's staying asleep through the night without waking up every couple hours. if i don't get the really deep sleep happening, i remain drowsy throughout the daytime.
weighted blanket didn't do that much for me. i'm not great about the basic stuff like no screens before bed or cutting down on caffeine. i do try to avoid caffeine after 2 or 3pm, but that's about the extent of it.
@purplepadma@dyani oh man, that sucks... i am toying with the idea of finding a different psychiatrist, but i suspect they're all gonna tell me the same thing -- i'm on too many meds and i need to reduce. dammit, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!!
