#MastoAdmin Had an outage while I was asleep and now there's a hole in my timeline because the server wasn't accessible to receive all the activitypub communication during that time.

All the other servers will probably retry sending most/all failed messages now that it's back up, correct?
Is there any way to force send out a "hey I'm alive now, resend me all the failed/retry items you got faster/now" to instances I'm currently federated with?
Whatever to backfill timeline/feed faster/at all?

@colinstu @EricMalves Typically every failure Sidekiq reports a doubling-up of the time to retry. So within the next 12 hours those federated with you will try again (failing usually takes days) and you'll be back in action.

It sucks having to defederate from entire instances because of a few select people not having morals.

My own morals don't allow me to federate with those who think they own Fedi. Not to mention the lies and slander they spread using their "federated blocklist" which is strictly picked by them only.

Then there's those that use their blocklist that I feel the need to defederate from as well because I don't feel I am safe from brigading and harassment caused by the lies spread by the blocklists.

When will someone with money and time sue them for slander? I can't be the only one they've lied about considering the amount of people they've defederated.🤦‍♂️

The number of sleepless nights I've had because of 1 word added to a blocklist that isn't even close to being true are astounding....😔 I am unable to do MANY things, so how the FUCK could I be ableist? I wish I had the money to sue for slander and get that instance shut down for the betterment of Fedi as a whole.

@BeAware There are some that would take that “ableist” slander seriously. But I find it to be a bogeyman word, like “Antifa”. Something that can exist but if someone says the word seriously, there’s a lot more research that has to be done (that’s not worth it and easy to dismiss).

I’d really not worry about it. Plenty of federation elsewhere.

@BeAware Agreed. I went to the blocklist and literally went to each of the blocked sites to see why they were blocked.

Some of the material was extremely disturbing. Some fixed their issues. Some didn’t have a problem to begin with. I’d say maybe 1/8 of the sites on the blocklist actually went into mine.

It’s weird when these committees run by big sites pretend they are the end-all-be-all arbiter of information, with as far as I know, no appeals.

An account exec from a vendor emailed me today all concerned that they weren’t sure they had my correct phone number since I never answered any calls.

I emailed back and reassured them they did in fact have the correct phone number, but I am of a generation that would rather sandpaper off their finger tip than speak on the phone.

Unpopular opinion: If you have a job, you should not use an adblocker. You can actually pay for the premium platforms if you don't want to see ads. Why should the internet be free for you, and why should content creators not get any money if you watch them? I have never used an Adblocker in my life. The free internet is not powered by cotton candy.

@dimillian Counterpoint: This effectively blames the affected party for something the advertising market created themselves: A market rich in tracking, rich in pop-ups/unders/midscrolls, active scams and fraud, vulnerabilities, and generally de facto bad material for the consumer.

The ad industry created this monster. I don’t feel bad Google Chrome literally came to advertisers’ rescue and now people leave that too.

Ads are an easy way to monetize, yes. There are others.

I had this fantastic plant-based milk product on my store shelves called "Not Milk". I really enjoyed it. Had this mild coconut flavor which might turn off some (not me) but anyway, it's gone now because it was too expensive for the market I'm in.

Meanwhile gallons of milk flow for the same purpose, only subsidized for under half the cost per ounce.

As we do, we stifle innovation ourselves based on our past.

If people are watching what is going on within Tesla right now, they are releasing a majorly redesigned Model 3, both interior and exterior, which is now getting the attention of potential buyers. Slows down manufacturing with the retooling.

Bad call as far as numbers/estimates goes, but hopefully this will improve the "cheap car feel" meme that the Model 3 currently has.

Everyone looking at the price tag vs the results knows a proxy war with a well-trained army, the side of the US and Ukraine, against formerly your biggest adversary is the least costly way to cripple your foe while hardly lifting a finger.

~$125 billion TOTAL, including humanitarian, in a sea of $800B+/yr is play money in war, and throwing Russia back with dollars is the largest blow to a man who thinks he’s militarily strong.

It even makes China hesitate. I’d pay a lot more just for that.

Thoughts on instant grocery apps

My life isn't cool enough for most apps. I'm never wandering through a new city, waiting to be bombarded with special offers. I don't need to meet hot singles in my area. And I can't remember the last time I went to a secret last-minute gig.

@Edent Here in America at my grocer, you can order your groceries online, pick a time to pick up, drive or bike to the store and they come out to you with the bags. It costs $3.

I don't understand the 3rd party stuff - the grocery stores can obviously do 90% of this for lower overhead.
