@rasterweb@kbin.social

I moved to fedia.io (which runs mbin) because it seems to work without constant errors.

You can find me at: https://fedia.io/u/rasterweb

I ended up moving from kbin.social to fedia.io which runs mbin and has a team, not just one person. (kbin.social kept breaking all the time for me.)

Thanks! I've though about doing more... I started working on a trash can icon yesterday and I'll see where it takes me.

If you want it to get worse just change it from a hobby to a business!

OpenSCAD is great for programmers because you write code to generate 3D objects. If you love Python there are ways to write Python that then generates OpenSCAD code, so that may be worth looking into.

I've had one for about a month, and I've been printing nearly non-stop with it. If you just want a printer that works out of the box, prints fast, and prints really nice... It's a great machine. I've owned and operated a lot of printers (at work, at home, at school, at a makerspace) over the last 12 years, and I'm not a fan of the cloud or proprietary hardware but, damn... this thing prints really, really nice... and fast.

Back On Thingiverse

I found out Thangs locks print files and comments behind an account when I tried downloading my own files from a different device. I’ve decided to leave the platform and going back to my trusty old Thingiverse. I tried to find something new and better but maybe Thingiverse is just the place to be for now. New links below....

Printables is also free of ads... Does Thingiverse still have ads?

Mastodon is getting text search (oisaur.com)

Full text search has been merged in #Mastodon main branch, and will be in the next (and final?) 4.2.0 beta 🎉 It is opt-in, so it will take some time to be filled with people content as they enable their profile to be indexed, but this was one of the most wanted Mastodon features for some time. We plan to deploy it to...

I use hashtags on my posts to help other discover them, but also to group my posts by subject. I probably follow 30 different hashtags on Mastodon to help me find interesting posts.

Hopefully negative behavior from the police will change in the future.

Ugh, not a fan of articles like this. Old hardware can continue to have plenty of uses, depending on what those uses are. (I was using a 2010 Mac Pro to run my laser cutter up until last year, and still have an even older iMac as a music player.)

No, different Cory. (I've known him over 30 years.)

I've been doing Arduino things for the past dozen years or so, and I was a huge supporter of the Arduino organization, and I still use the Arduino IDE, but I've mostly moved away from their boards in the past five years. I've used a lot of Teensy boards over the years (hundreds, actually) and the occasional UNO, Nano, and Micro, but the Raspberry Pi Pico has been my go-to board in the past few years, and I work in education where the micro:bit seems to really be taking off. It's a shame, because I'd love to see Arduino continue, but not as a closed-source company.

GarlicOS failure

I fired up the Anbernic RG35XX this morning and it worked fine for a bit and then started flashing and games would launch and then immediately quit. The whole screen was flashing / blinking. I tried the stock OS on the original SD card and it worked fine. I ended up doing a fresh install of GarlicOS on a new SD card and that was...

I solved my own problem! It seems retroarch.cfg became corrupt. Someone made an "app" that can fix it. You copy it into the APPS folder and launch it using RetroArch to replace the config file. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xZ5e8vxk9cvtQzuA2PG9kgX87IEBSEMY/view

It definitely needs a way to filter/sort things. As it is now, it's pretty much useless as it's just a firehose of notifications.

Well, he's got to keep up his "lying shitbag" reputation.

/kbin project management costs, financing, future plans

I wrote the first line of code for /kbin on January 14, 2021. Around this time, I started working remotely and decided that the time I used to spend commuting to the office would be devoted to /kbin. Throughout this entire period, /kbin has been a hobby project that I developed in my free time. It was also when Lemmy started...

Committee Backs 4 Streetcar Extensions (urbanmilwaukee.com)

The Department of Public Works would be directed to pursue federal grants to fund the majority of four extensions: a Lower East Side line to Brady Street via N. Prospect Avenue and N. Farwell Avenue, a Westown line to Fiserv Forum via N. Vel R. Phillips Avenue, a new line north from Fiserv Forum to Bronzeville and a new line...

I really hope this happens. My only complaint about The Hop is that it doesn't go far enough (yet) though I know it takes time.

Yes! My big boy cat flops down and demands them.

CTA: Create a thriving Fediverse without relying on Reddit

The Fediverse must be very careful to avoid getting branded as the "alternative to X". In my experience, platforms that have historically branded themselves as "alternative to" or "anti-" have generally not done well. Learned this from the last Reddit exodus: let's make this one different!...

OC While you're waiting on a kbin app, you should know the mobile site is entirely functional as a mobile app. Just make a shortcut for your home screen

Apps are always nice, but lots of mobile websites, including the kbin one, are entirely functional as an app. In your browser you can just make a shortcut to them, and they'll appear on your home screen and act as an app....

I've done this in Firefox on iOS but sadly the browser's back and forward arrows are not available and... I miss them!

This is very exciting! I'm looking forward to the growth of the Threadiverse.

timvandijck, to fediverse

If you tried Lemmy but didn't like the ui, give Kbin a shot. It's federated with Lemmy so you can participate in the fastly growing community. https://kbin.social/

@NatureMC

@timvandijck They are similar to reddit in that there are posts and replies. But also, it's federated and uses ActivityPub. (I am replying from kbin right now!)

Nice! I may need to design one for my RG35XX.
