This is a very good comic, and it describes every author (or #artist) who is unsure of themself. Don't let this be you!
Complete stories (your vision) regardless of the merit you see in them.
Start a next one. Full stop. Then another.
Complete and send out more stories even if some editor (or commenter) doesn't buy or like them.
It's all practice, every single failure or not-good-enough. Practice makes you better, whatever they think, or you think. Keep practicing.
Take from criticism only whatever helps you identify or fix problems; reject being put in your place or ridiculed. It's practice. Your art is unique to you. Be truthful with yourself, though.
Keep starting and completing stories. Statistically, some will be good—and you will start to recognize the wheat in the chaff.
Their first stories weren't fabulous. Neither may be yours. The difference? They kept on starting, completing, sending (or posting), until they found success. Let that be you.

Mit lähmender Hilflosikgeit erfuhr ich "zufällig" vor einigen Wochen via Fedipost von @antiaall3s dass Jess Curtis, Künstler, Choreograf und Kopf von Gravity Access Services nicht mehr am Leben ist. Schade und beschämend empfinde ich, dass ich weder in den einschlägigen Fachmedien, noch von Seiten der etablierten großen Kunsthäuser irgend eine posthume Würdigung oder Meldung zu dem viel zu frühen Tod dieses Künstlers finden konnte 🙁
Deshalb hier meine Persönlicher Nachruf an Jess.
Ich lernte Jess im Herbst 2020 kennen: Die deutsche Künstler:innenbuble begann eben erst wieder, sich ein wenig inmitten der immer noch das Kulturleben strak einschränkenden Pandemie aufzurappeln. Nach langer Zeit der Existenzangst und Öffentlichkeitsabstinenz und Remoteexperimente hatten meine Partnerin und ich uns bei einem Workshop zu einem uns schon länger beschäftigenden Thema angemeldet: Es ging um Audiodescription von Tanz- und Performancekunst fabrikpotsdam.de/workshop/453
Angekündigt als Workshopleiter war Jess Curtis. Lag es an der Pandemie, oder an der vielleicht suboptimalen Kommunikation der "Fabrik Potsdam", jedenfalls trafen wir uns unerwartet nur zu dritt auf dem wundervollen Gelände wieder. Wir waren offenbar die einzigen zwei Teilnehmer:innen 😉
Das sollte für uns kein Nachteil sein, Jess sagte die veranstaltung nicht ab, im Gegenteil er ermöglichte uns eine intensive 1:1-Lehrsituation, in der wir sehr viel und entsprechend persönlich zum Thema #Audiodescription bei Tanzperformances erfuhren und regen persönlichen Austausch halten konnten. Danke Jess, dass ich Dich kennenlernen durfte. Danke für alles, was Du für die zeitgenössische Tanz- und Performancekunst getan hast und dass Du auch Menschen mit Beeinträchtigungn Kunst weiter zugänglich machtest. Vieles was ich von Dir lernte werde ich versuchen für eigene Projekte weiterzutragen.
Jess hat die Zugänglichkeit von zeitgenössischen Tanzstücken für Menschen mit Seheinschrängungen maßgeblich befördert und zusammen mit seinen Kolleginnen daran gearbeitet, dass sich #Audiodescription und andere Techniken der Teilhabe mehr und mehr endlich auch in der Kunst etablieren. Nicht nur in seinen zwei Heimatstädten San Francisco und Berlin.
@wolf Danke dir für diesen Nachruf. Beim Jess Curtis Memorial, welches ich auf Twitch leider nicht mehr finden kann, hat auch Claire Cunningham gesprochen, eine von mehreren Tänzerinnen mit körperlicher Behinderung, die von Jess in seine Tanztruppe eingeladen worden sind.
Today, I forgot that I needed to have my car state inspected before getting my registration renewed. Fortunately, I've still got a few days to get that done [already scheduled the appointment for the inspection].
The day that I go for the inspection, my mom is having knee-replacement surgery in another state. She and my dad live in a rural area; they raise rabbits [for a food source] and have a garden as well as two dogs, one of which is a foster dog which will be coming to live with me once it's treatment is completed.
All this to say that it would really help myself and my family out if I got more traffic & customers to my sites | shops. I'm an artist. I sell printable coloring sheets & device wallpapers in addition to having a Redbubble shop. Thank y'all for reading through.

Ram Island Ledge Lighthouse always held a bit of mystery for me, since I could never get close to it, sitting out in Casco Bay on a rocky ledge.
