—but I think it’s pretty compelling TV independent of those factors. High production value…which has not been the case for a lot of recent SFF prestige TV, IMHO.

These books sold me on Hugh Howey. My OCD gets mainlined with good authors and he's no exception, I've read nearly everything he's written. And keep finding more and I know I have to catch up now, too.
These books aren't known to me as Silo, I think of them as Wool, Wool II (Shift), and Wool III (Dust). :) So when I see #silo I have to translate that to #wool
Immediately after I finished this trilogy I devoured the Sand series, plus fanfic. Then I chomped through all his space stuff, which is some of his BEST stuff. Not Wool-level mindblowing (imho), but still ... his universe building is like watercolor paints. Half Way Home is spectacular.
And guess what? There's another show. Beacon 23, that's the same author. I don't know if it's as good, but I wanna see it. The books are also fantastic.
I got a "refrigerator question" after #Silo TV series (You enjou a film but later get a "wait-what?" moment) It makes no sense for absolute tyranny to exist in a community of less than 10k people, struggling to survive in a hole. Why lie to people for hundreds of years yet the truth increases chances or survival?
Is tyranny just an overused trope in dystopias for story conflict, or is this how the system makes us tolerate the bad governments of today?
While I enjoyed the show as well I also missed more visible signs of how they create cohesion in this society (flag waving, folk tales, customs, parades…).
I have heard that the books go into more detail about how the people are kept docile than what was shown in season 1 of the show. So we might learn more about that.
@fgraver Another thing I must watch (the DVDs are standing by). If The Wire is anywhere near as good as Homicide: Life on the Street it will be fantastic.

I was thinking if I found out that about my husband all of his belongings would get tossed on the lawn, I don't care if the apocalypse is starting! But that situation changes pretty significantly later 😆 Severance is one of the best shows I've seen recently, its sci-fi but a modern setting. It starts out a bit slow but is worth it. The cast is fabulous.
Finished the last of the three books in the #Silo series and wow, fantastic. Powered through for two hours because I couldn’t stop turning the pages to see how it all concludes.
