It's just not an opaque and manipulative one.

I gotta admit, I am very much enjoying @ghost's ActivityPub progress newsletter.

Last week they were having an existential crisis, this week they're saying it's our fault as the users, that ActivityPub is so hard.
(I'm paraphrasing the most dramatic part without context for the read receipts)

Tumblr promised ActivityPub support and then disappeared for 2 years. Ghost promised ActivityPub support, and then their engineers appear each week to tell us how they regret that decision.

From Ghost ActivityPub newsletter, on May 25, 2024. Heading, "What's new with ActivityPub?", with the paragraph below, "Last week we promised you earth-shattering innovation in the form of database persistence. Did we achieve that? We did not. So, like every tired product manager in the history of ever, I will now attempt to explain that away and still sound totally optimistic - leading you to believe that our initial time estimates remain both accurate and relevant." Not in this screenshot, but further down they also blame the users for why ActivityPub is so hard, haha.

The nice thing about Pixelfed/Mastodon is that I often open it to post something, yet end up spending an hour or more looking at the amazing, invariably uplifting, informative, positive and uniquely human content that's being shared, before remembering, 'right, I wanted to post this one photo'. That never happen{s|ed} on other social media.

My old instance/server is shutting down and when I requested my Archieve I see that it does not include my past posts and they didn't migrate over to my new home.

Is there any way to get an archive of my past?
