Having not done a real hike since November, it seemed the perfect time to launch myself on ~40 miles over 3 days backpacking.
Day 1 started in old growth redwoods, passed remains of homesteading, then climbed past a selection of trees to one of the old growth redwood backpacking camps.
Day 2 wasn't far, but had excursions to make it longer than the first. Out along Hanson Ridge and up to the fire lookout on Grasshopper Mountain and one that shall simply be known simply as The Excursion.
Highway 1 remains closed after road collapsed in storm
A section of California’s Highway 1 – which winds along the state’s cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean – crumbled during a major storm on Saturday, the Associated Press reported.
The damaged road in Monterey county, near the #Big#Sur area of Northern California,🔸 stranded nearly 1,600 drivers overnight 🔸along the highway, until emergency crews could guide them along the damaged roadway the next morning.
Some stranded motorists were forced to sleep in their cars. Others stayed in local hotels being used as emergency shelters.
“Convoys will lead essential travelers through closure area daily at 8am and 4pm. Engineers on site to observe conditions. Crews working to stabilize edge of roadway,” authorities said.
California governor, Gavin Newsom, said on Sunday that his office was coordinating with several state agencies to address the slip-out, according to a statement on X.
I know about Clonezilla and copy pasting partitions with gparted, but can I just use dd to copy a partition with batocera to a USB stick and will it then boot from the stick? Do I have to set the boot flag or take any other steps?...
You can say something like “I want to backup my entire file system using [this program]. I want to create a tar file, and then copy that to an external drive. I want the program to display progress while it’s copying, then verify the files have been copied correctly once it has finished. I am using [whatever distro]. Please give me the commands I need to achieve this.”
Then it will spit out the commands you need to input with the correct syntax.
The best part is that you can then ask it to clarify any parts of its answer so you can learn how it all works and make sure the commands are doing what you asked. And if your computer spits out an error, just paste that back into chatgpt and it will help you resolve it.
Seriously, chatgpt is like a 24 hour on call Linux guru friend. It’s saved me so much time and effort over the last few months doing things like this.
Meint @pluralistic da wirklich das deutsche "verkackt"? Nur angepasst an die amerikanische Aussprache? Witzig und weird!?
//
Does Doctorow really use the German word "verkackt" here, only adjusted to English phonetics? Weird but funny o_0

#CarbonCapture#Neoliberalism#Capitalism#ClimateChange#Inequality: "If we're willing to fund untested longshots like carbon capture, why not measures that have far better track-records? For example, there's a pretty solid correlation between the presence of women in legislatures and on corporate boards and overall reductions in carbon. I'm the last person to suggest that the problems of capitalism can be replaced by replacing half of the old white men who run the world with women, PoCs and queers – but if we're willing to hand billions to ferkakte scheme like carbon capture, why not subsidize companies that pack their boards with women, or provide campaign subsidies to women running for office? It's quite a longshot (putting Liz Truss or Marjorie Taylor-Greene on your board or in your legislature is no way to save the planet), but it's got a better evidentiary basis than carbon capture.
There's also good evidence that correlates inequality with carbon emissions, though the causal relationship is unclear. Maybe inequality lets the wealthy control policy outcomes and tilt them towards permitting high-emission/high-profit activities. Maybe inequality reduces the social cohesion needed to make decarbonization work. Maybe inequality makes it harder for green tech to find customers. Maybe inequality leads to rich people chasing status-enhancing goods (think: private jet rides) that are extremely carbon-intensive."
The #Congo Rainforest is the second-largest rainforest on planet earth - and it is under threat. Our campaign, started by #VanessaNakate and #RemyZahiga, now has members from across the globe.
What remains of the Congo Rainforest is rapidly losing its ability to act as a carbon sink.
This is a result of increased temperatures and altered rainfall patterns - a product of anthropomorphic climate change.
