"what is coronal moss? It's what gives the Sun its fluffy appearance here. These peculiar structures on the Sun resemble the moss we find on Earth, in that it appears like fine, lacy features.
"But on the Sun, they usually can be found around the center of sunspot groups, where magnetic conditions are strong and large coronal loops are forming. The moss is so hot, most instruments can't detect them. The moss spans two atmospheric layers, the chromosphere and corona."
Trail run this morning. Skies darkened just as I headed out but rain held off. Perfect weather for exploring and running. Tried capturing some classic New Hampshire rocks and roots in the attached video link.
Some more pictures from the run. Lots of eggs in the vernal pools and Red Efts are everywhere. Tree buds starting to open, but leafed-out, green woods are still a couple weeks away?
Who is your favorite celebrity in the fediverse? They don't need to have a large number of followers, or even a Mastodon account, but I'd like to hear about some famous (or semi-famous) folks who are actively participating in federated social media.
@docpop And yet it’s the people I have never heard of outside the #Fediverse who actually keep me coming back. Like the #3GoodThings, #Mosstodon, #FountainPens groups, and other little pockets of enthusiasm people let us peek into.
Welcome dear May, pictures taken in previous years, bluebells near Burrator, oaks near Burrator, hawthorn near Whitchurch down, and oak at Grenofen, #Dartmoor. #Devon#mosstodon
‘In lovely harmony the wood has put on its green mantle, and summer is on its throne, playing its string-music; the willow, whose harp hung silent when it was withered in winter, now gives forth its melody - Hush! Listen! The world is alive.
Welsh; Thomas Telynog Evans; 1840-65.’
A friend of mine wrote a wonderful text on "the significance of moss in our lives and the interconnection between humans and more-than-human entities". If you are into moss, you would definitely enjoy this essay.
