I am, like many others here, a refugee from other social media sites. In my case, it all started way back in 1990 when I did the DT200 information technology course. This gave me access to their CoSy based conferencing system. From there I explored various before joining . From there I migrated to and via and alt newsgroups.

My posts are likely to cover a variety of areas such as: , , and . Now that I've got a few more characters to play with I may also post the occasional .

TIL, Pleroma allows you to hide hashtags if you don't include them in the content of the message, but include them in the tags array in the AP message

Depends how your client renders markdown

is a tag using an escape character

is a tag without an escape character

(May be rendered as a tag or a heading)

this is a heading

Imagine being a non-Jew knowing non-Jews who hate Jews made up the term antisemitism to describe hating Jews and non-Jews universally used it making it the only term that can practically be used to describe hating Jews and then blaming the Jews you hate because they use it too.

Of course, this was also a response to someone complaining that Jews aren't the only semites. Yes, that old canard.

You really can't make up caricatures like this.

They have to happen in the wild to be this fucking spectacularly stupid.

robbienorlyn,
@robbienorlyn@babka.social avatar

@RevLindsay @dukepaaron is spot on! It is about controlling the language in order to control meaning and narrative. They don’t like what they are doing is wrong so they invent different meanings for the words in order to change feelings on the matter. It’s fascist manipulation of the highest degree.

I'm used to using hashtags (i.e. number signs) in Markdown to make headings. If a line starts with one of these signs, it's a heading.

is a heading level 1

## is level 3

This doesn't work in Markdown on Github. What's the secret to making headings in a gist?

Just make every word a hashtag and you will never have to worry about adding them again :neofox_think_woozy:

It’s such obvious bullshit.
Can you imagine being the appeals attorney reduced to making this argument? You spent decades in school, training, practicing, earning the right to argue before an appeals court, and that’s what you’ve got?
Or his other one about how courts don’t sit in judgment of presidents yet in the next breath that same decision notes presidents can be criminally prosecuted?
Im embarrassed for him and I don’t even know him.

A reflection from writing performance reviews.

There are ~two approaches to earning trust. (1) Demonstrate similarity with someone. People like and trust people who are like them. (2) Be consistently useful to them.

The first approach is how most managers operate; they want to be perceived as "like" their team members and strive to be technically "legitimate." However this approach doesn't scale as you manage different kinds of people; you can't be everything to everyone in an authentic way.

@drewww Safety, to me, is an essential precursor to trust, yeah. Not just the feeling of safety but the fact of it.

How to automatically assign classes in GRUB?

Hi, I'm not the most expert user, but I've been messing with my latest linux install for a few months. I costumized the look of the GRUB, but whenever the kernel gets updated and the grub.cfg gets regenerated, the classes of two entries do not generate (efi and submenu), leaving the entries with no icons (which are determined by...
