@mjgardner in #Hungary for a while you have been forced to use windows® software for taxes. Then it became better by providing a quite horrible java based code, which ran on Linux too. Just a few years agot have they started to move over to web based stuff. Still things like digital id signatures don't work too well on non-windows®.
The alternative is, of course, that you are punished for not providing tax forms and pay up.
Someone added a 1931 photo of Aladár Rácz to his EN Wikipedia article, I'd never seen it before. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen any photo of him from before he was already quite old and frail. There are a couple of videos of him playing on youtube, mostly from the 1950s. You can see him in this one with his second wife Yvonne Barblan, a pianist and his accompanist with whom he had a truly beautiful musical connection in my opinion, as can be heard on numerous baroque music LPs they made together. Hungary 🇭🇺 has descended into authoritarianism, supports russian #fascism politically, financially and legally, it continuously blocks EU and NATO decisions which would otherwise be unanimous, and its actions lead to security risks in #Europe and deaths in #Ukraine.

Ukraine welcomes EU deal on continued farm exports
Ukraine on Saturday welcomed the European Union’s hard-fought deal to keep farm exports flowing into and through the bloc to world markets, saying that the Middle East and Africa would specifically stand to benefit from it.
Late Friday, the 27-nation EU ended a damaging internal standoff over a destabilizing glut of Ukraine farm imports by granting five eastern member countries the right to temporarily ban the most problematic produce while allowing all farm products to transit onward.
Resolving the issue allows the EU to maintain a unified stance in the face of Russia’s invasion of its neighbor. “We welcome that we resolved this issue,” Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko said at a meeting of EU finance ministers in Stockholm.
I sadly predict #Twitter & #ElonMusk will ignore these regulations, & will emerge victorious by appealing to #Italy 🇮🇹, #Hungary 🇭🇺, & #Poland 🇵🇱 (who will play interference).
I don't think people are realising the danger the Fediverse is in.
The only thing stopping corporations and VCs taking over this place is that the Fediverse is spread out on many different servers, which makes it very difficult to purchase.
If most of the Fediverse ends up on mastodon.social, which is now a strong possibility, there will be nothing to stop most of it being sold to Musk or Zuckerberg or whoever.
The bigger mastodon.social becomes, the more likely a buyout is to happen.
