This is possibly one of the best Substack blogs around. Father & Son - Prof Lawrence Freedman (War, Foreign Policy) & Sam (detailed UK policy analysis). It rises above the click-bait & quick takes - they write lengthy, thought out, detailed stuff.

This particular piece by Sam I almost filed away for later. But glad I made the time for it.

Horrid new report from @972mag on an "AI" system called Lavender and "Where's Daddy?" used by the IDF. Has a 10% error rate, and acceptable "collateral" from 15 to 100 civilians per target.

This is sick and the future of AI warfare for US Empire.

Report: Tesla blamed drivers for failures of parts it long knew were defective.

Wheels falling off cars at speed. Suspension collapsing on brand-new vehicles. Axles breaking under acceleration. Tens of thousands of customers told Tesla about a host of part failures on low-mileage cars. The automaker sought to blame drivers for vehicle ‘abuse,’ but Tesla documents show it had tracked the chronic ‘flaws’ and ‘failures’ for years.

Apologies, I only know snippets of colonial history, and at that only through works of purile fiction like "Flashman And The Great Game" (might be a laugh if you're bored), and Kipling's Barrack Room Ballads book (that fellow knew how to write a book for a specific market!). If anyone knows of any Indian equivalent of the book "Putin's People" I'd be all ears too.

The Mother Jones magazine is on the edge and needs readers to support them and their investigative efforts.

Their plea, at the end of articles starts with: "AN IMPORTANT UPDATE ON MOTHER JONES' FINANCES

We need to start being more upfront about how hard it is keeping a newsroom like Mother Jones afloat these days.

Because it is, and because we're fresh off finishing a fiscal year, on June 30, that came up a bit short of where we needed to be. And this next one simply has to be a year of growth—particularly for donations from online readers to help counter the brutal economics of journalism right now."

It's a sad to see so many accounts left unused, after the big surge of last year. My feed has turned stale, and sometimes it feels people are talking to themselves (in all its weird, quirky or downright hell). And that is before you see those from Birdsite without ever coming on . The one lively community is my list & I am grateful. Please send recommendations of other accounts to follow: 🙏🏽
