Genuine question: Could I get a job where I primarily design lasercutting vectors? A good job, decent pay, stable, maybe remote, all that.
I'm wicked good at it with almost a decade experience. I just hadn't considered it as a primary vocation somehow. Probably because I don't have and didn't intentionally pursue a graphic design degree.
More context is I'm a hardware hacker and electronics PM.
Briefly back onto the Farnsworths. Finished both cases, but one of the displays died, and the replacement sent was wrong. So waiting (again) to get the second one running.
Moved the Strowger script and the test card script onto an Internet facing server. Currently, I can only try the test card and remote loop back.
Sag mal Mastodon, weiß jemand da draußen ob man Plexiglas zur Abschirmung von grünem Laser verwenden kann? Ich hab da so eine Erweiterung für meinen Ender, aber keinen separaten Raum. #3ddruck#lasercutting
Hey #mastodon, a fun question. So where do makers and 3d printing folks hang out around here? I feel like there isn't much going on in the big instance for this type of crowd, so I'm looking to move closer to my people.
If you know any geeky #community with lots of makers, please ping me
I'm also planning to turn on the Discourse ActivityPub federation when it is ready (it has some restrictions right now that will be removed over time).
Todays project: fixing our cellular shoe organizer. A few of the 3dprinted connectors broke when we moved 5 years ago and yesterday the whole thing collapsed 🫠
Did some laser cutting this week. I picked up the pattern on Etsy and couldn't help myself. Knocked it out in a couple of days (one day to cut, one day to re-cut some bits, build and paint. #lasercutting#bloodandplunder
What's the easiest/smallest tool investment to cut spring steel?
As in the PEI coated stuff used on #3dPrinting beds.
I'm tempted to clamp it between wood and use a jigsaw with a sheet metal blade, but I think that might make a razor sharp edge (or just not work). Maybe an oscillating multi-tool?
Absolutely love it when everything is going, feels like a proper workshop. Some wall mounts for something in my daughters room (pics to follow), a Barbie themed name plate for her window sill, some Steam Deck Perspex keyrings on the laser cutter and just about to resin print something for a friend.
Still working on the K40 laser machine at the maker space.
I'm using a separate 24V power supply for the cohesion 3D mini board control board and for the stepper motors. So I feel comfortable using the 24V and 5V from the laser power supply (LPS) to power some led lights and other small things. Problem is that the 5V and 24V connections on the LPS are made with a pin plug instead of screw terminals. So no easy way to add more connections
Had a bunch of 2 pin detachable screw terminals on hand so I made up a power distribution block with some solder board.
I designed this piece in Rhinoceros and laser cut it out of 1/8" plywood. It measures about 36" x 24". It's called Reef #1 (I expect there will be more reef designs).
