I'm glad to see I'm not the only one struggling out there with adding the second hand

(I'm open to tips)

Does anyone have recommendations for a good beginners midi controller that's fairly cheap, ideally a 25-key one? I don't want to break the bank just yet, but I'm getting incredibly tired of Musical Typing and trying to play complex melodies on a MacBook's internal keyboard.

Advice and opinions welcomed:

I have a LOT of interests and hobbies, many of which make their way here. But I've been ramping up my songwriting and music production, and plan to increase the sharing, promotion, and marketing around it too.

So my struggle is: do I create a new profile JUST for my music? Tricky because I have a lot of followers right here who are into music, but maybe the ones who aren't don't want to hear about it all the time.

Hello new folks! There's a lot of you recently, so I thought I'd do an post. I'm an independent who uses Mastodon to spread the word about --my own, and the work of others! If you , you'll get lots of recommendations of new, , of all kinds! My own favorite is weird , but I listen to and write about all kinds of music.

Here's my most recent album, btw:

Any friends want to talk about techniques? Do you have a question about how to do something? Got a production problem you can't solve on your own? Or maybe you want to share a trick you learned recently? Even just brag about some cool shit you did in the studio recently? Let's hear it! (And boost this while you're at it.)

friends, I've been slacking on listening to and writing about your . In my defense, I've been stupid busy but I'm going to start making time. Feel free to reach out to me with what you're up to and I'll try to cover as much of it as possible as soon as I wrap up my current writing test (due Monday night, so starting Tuesday most likely).

Still planning on launching a newsletter to act as a home for all that but haven't had time to figure out the logistics of that either.

I need a producer.

I'm confident enough in my songwriting craft to know that there are some real gems there.

But I'm honest enough with myself to know that my technical (recording + mixing) skills are lacking. The production and songs themselves could really shine if I had a fresh pair of ears there to just do what's best for the song.

I'm a 47-year-old musician who's been playing guitar and writing songs since I was 16.

I just got my first amplifier. Yes, I am a walking contradiction. But that doesn't diminish my OVERWHELMING excitement right now!

The backstory: I didn't actually start recording any of my songs until about 8 years ago, and my solution for that was simply to play through a DAW and use software effects.

I had no idea what I was missing.

I'd like to follow/be mutuals with every and on Mastodon, and I bet I don't even have 10% of y'all in my follow list yet! Let's start to fix that!

Reasons for music fans to follow me:

  1. I am mutuals with a HUGE number of musicians, and I promote the fuck out of them, so you'll be exposed to lots of new music

  2. I write about at least a half dozen of these artists every month, giving you some insight into what they make and why you might like it

  3. All the cool kids do it

Hey #musician and #producer friends of the Fediverse! If you're looking to get some authentic (i.e. non digital plugin) #tape sounds on your music, samples or mixes, I can help. I'm offering $15 for 45 minutes of audio run thru authentic magnetic tape and back to digital. I offer reel-to-reel and 3 different cassette deck options, plus a few specialty options (VHS, 8-track, microcassette) for an extra charge. If you're interested, DM me or email iametherdiver AT gmail.

Boosts appreciated!

Masto pals, looking for suggestions. My best friend is battling and, as a result of that and other conditions, it has become hard for her to play her heavy . She's looking for a lighter electric guitar so she can continue playing through her treatment. Not necessarily a short scale guitar, just a lighter one. Any have any recommendations I can give her on a specific brand or model? Boosts appreciated for reach 🤗🎸

How about an ? I'm an independent based in Denver, Colorado. I make weird, psychedelic instrumental electronic music. I like to talk about that music, your music, or really, any kind of music at all -- I'm a retired music/arts journalist. I also will post (more often repost) stuff about politics (leftist) from time to time. You might also see some posts about art, photography, writing or history. Or science fiction, fantasy and weird fiction!

it's weird how it's harder to play in sync with a recording or a click track than with other people. i think it's because it doesn't adapt to you.

I've asked this before and don't think there was as much up and running at that point, but are there any great existing #PeerTube platforms for hosting #MusicVideos (and related puppet vids) that also give the option to embed privately or "unlisted"?

I currently pay a Vimeo subscription to have no ads and privacy settings on certain playlists, but I'd prefer to put those funds into more recording time and the videos themselves. Any suggestions? 🙃 #FediMusic #Musodon #DIYMusic #Music #Musician

A couple of people have asked, since my recent instance change, about what I'm playing - musically speaking. Recently, I've been just messing around for a couple of hours, no more than 3-4 takes, and no previous idea of what I was going to do. Usually on a Sunday morning. As you can imagine it can vary in success widely but I'm also trying to learn how to record myself, get better at playing, everything really ... Here is a recent one.

It's provocatively entitled "240121 Song 4".

Does anyone know how to correctly clean the neck and fretboard on the Charvel dk24s? I read there’s a slight satin finish that could be damaged by steel wool. :blobcatcoffee: Thanks! #GearSquad #guitar #fretboard #cleaning #gear #musician

New York Times article about a musician who has posted thousands and thousands of (ridiculous) random songs in an SEO bid to Spotify etc... which actually works that he makes a leaving from random streams of those random songs.
