As caregivers, we need each other. We need empathy without pity. We need advice without judgement. We need friendship without expectations.

A tired man is already in the grip of death and insanity … A sane man is … fully awake. As he grows tired, he loses his ability to rise above dreams and delusions, and life becomes steadily more chaotic.

England has been a pirate as she always was. From Hengist and Horsa, and the Vikings, she first learnt the trick. William the Conqueror was a pirate; so was Francis Drake.

All day, every day, we acquire a lot of information, some of it true, quite a bit of it, I imagine, false, or at best, misleading.

The world won't stop when we stop listening. We have freedom to pause, look at our surroundings, wonder, ponder, and seek that which is true, and beautiful, timeless, natural, normal and good.

I am ready, with Drake, to singe the King of Spain’s beard; or to tear the Kaiser from his gory throne, in a moment of patriotic passion. But I am not prepared to sit down and argue calmly that such actions are ethically right. …

Initially, what she wanted to find was a seer, an oracle or a prophetess who could impart to her teachings of truth. For that reason she traveled to where she thought this person could be.

But in the course of the journey, she realized that what she was searching for was not someone to TELL her the truth, but the truth itself.

And that she could find by seeking.

"Find joy in the journey"
This image represents the idea that true happiness and fulfillment come from embracing the journey, rather than just focusing on the destination. The winding pathway symbolizes the twists and turns we encounter in life, while the figure walking along it represents the courage and determination needed to keep moving forward

What we commonly call "behaviors" actually are communication about confusion, pain, distress, or for other wants or needs to be addressed. We must view them compassionately and listen for the message.

There comes a point when we can eat no more because our bodies simply must have time to digest what we have taken in.

So it is with knowledge, or what passes for knowledge, or facts, or "news," -- there comes a point when we must stop ingesting and take time to review and ponder over, analyze and question, think upon and contemplate what we have taken in.

Yes, that's who originated the quote.

Respect for PhD historian and author, Laurel Ulrich, who said this as a passing remark originally in a study from 1976 about Puritan funeral services.

Often, we want everything to match, to look the same, to be part of a set that goes together.

But it is so much easier, and can be just as beautiful, when things don't match, don't look all the same -- when each piece, though it shares characteristics with others, does not look like an exact copy of the rest.
