The rot doesn't stop at the top. It's not just Macron, Darmanin and the rest of the French government. The entire French Establishment is at fault. Like their Vichyesque predecessors, they rely on institutionalised brutality among the National Police and paramilitary Gendarmerie. The Lukashenko regime has "goon squads". The French Establishment have theirs.
🧵I know I mostly toot about #Ukraine here, but the #SCOTUS has got me annoyed. More than they usually irritate me. People in my generation (elder #millennial), #GenX'ers, and #Boomers, mostly grew up with a court that's legacy was in many ways progressive. As a result, most folks respected & trusted the SCOTUS as an institution, especially when compared to the other branches of #government. #Watergate, #Clinton's #impeachment, & various #bribery & #misconduct scandals in #congress 1/n
Only reinforced this notion. #Justice's of the #SCOTUS have certainly been keen to portray themselves as "above the fray" of #Politics as well. As long as the #court continued to deliver rulings that were seen as working for the #rights, #liberty, and a more just #society, this mystique made sense. After all, it was the court that expanded the rights of #defendant's in court, #FreeSpeech, #RacialEquality, #womensrights, & #LGBTQ rights. The court of the latter half of the #20thcentury 2/n
My unpopular opinion: I remember when I was first introduced to #scrum. My first thought was "this is conceptually similar to #xp (extreme programming), but with best practices removed."
Two decades later and my views have evolved considerably, but I still see that projects developed under Scrum often fail, hard, at the technical best practices.
Brands’ fascination with social-media fads has devalued the rigorous practice of trend forecasting. Brands should remember some simple laws of physics to get back on track.
Trends once meant meaningful social change: an emerging and defining collective thought, behaviour, value, or attitude. A shift in society.
Not any longer....

Time and again, we see CEOs and similar executives make horrible decisions that massively damage a company both financially and in terms of reputation and the perpetrator is forced to resign, yet receives so much money as a going away present you'd think they're being rewarded for their fuck up. Why??
"KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 — If you are born in Malaysia and are a Malaysian, do you take it for granted that your children and grandchildren will also be Malaysians and enjoy the same privileges as you?
A Malaysia-born family in Taiping, Perak has found themselves struggling through three generations of statelessness — a situation where they are not citizens of any country at all."
