Nearly half of Gen Z and millennial workers have left a job, or plan to, because of climate concerns
BYOrianna Rosa Royle

The era of “global boiling” is here, sending shivers down young worker’s spines. But instead of sitting with their anxiety, Gen Z and millennials are trying to save the planet by quitting jobs that aren’t eco-friendly.

Most of these tests to ensure someone is a seem like things that anyone can figure out, but I don't see any possible way for kids these days to understand the scroll wheel without seeing someone else use it first.

do you remember when you'd get home from school on a friday and take off the away message on AIM and then go off to reorganize your myspace top 8? them were the days.

it's weird living in a moment when, at that time, i didn't think i'd ever think about those days.

but i do. often.

New Instance, New Software , New Year, New (it's kind of long, sorry, not sorry) :neofox_pleading: I'm going to follow this post with a thread "living" top 10 lists that change over time...

The boring bio stuff first: I'm an elder (currently late 30s) living in the Metro Area in the . I'm just your boring average nerdy white girl with all the pumpkin spice drinks that go with that. :neofox:

What do I talk about? Usually, my trans life or politics or sci-fi or just random shit. I do a lot of responses to people and sometimes even complain about work. :neofox_reach:

Now the thing I'm actually most passionate about: I'm writing a thriller . The thing that makes it special (in my mind) is that the story changes and evolves based on real life events... I started writing it in 2004, I'm finally getting it out... I've tried to make it various different things over time it's ended out coming out as a blog: https://lastcontact.space :neofox_hyper:

Hobbies: I enjoy watching , , , basically consuming anything I can get my hands on that catches me. I'm an avid player and of . I enjoy going to see shows, plays etc. I used to be an outdoorsy type of person, but I think I'm starting to outgrow that bit. :neofox_happy:

Career: My day job is as a technical program manager for a major global cloud services provider. I almost went into software engineering, but I've determined that wasn't for me and went into hardware repair instead. Now, I manage policy, procedure, and the tooling for people in the datacenter who do the repairs of equipment. I've worked way too much in 2023 and hoping to find a better balance in 2024. :neofox_scream:

Politics: Since I talk about them a bit, I should put my politics out there. I spent some time attached to all political belief systems in the US -- When I was young I said thing that were super far lefty. However I spent some time in the far right. They had their tendrils in me when I was convinced that I was a cis-het-dude. Now, I consider myself independent, but most of my beliefs come from the very left side of the scale (just like when I was a kid). :neofox_0_0:

Home Life: I have a pup and a partner that I talk about from time to time. Not much other family connected right now, but maybe I'll reunite with some of them in 2024. Also, I'm very of sad because we know we're nearing the end of life for our puppy; she's dealing with a lot of pain after hurting her back in 2022. :neofox_floof_sad_reach:

There's a cheat-code in US it's been increasingly used since the administration, when the "" theory (" are fine, so long as the lower prices") shoved aside the long-established idea that antitrust law existed to prevent monopolies from forming at all.

Well, Uber has doubled the price of a ride and halved the wages of its drivers (not that consumer welfare theorists care about workers' wages - they care about consumer welfare, not worker welfare). And not just Uber: companies that captured whole markets have jacked up prices and lowered quality across the board, a Great Enshittening whose playbook has been dubbed "":

The thing is, any feed or search result is "algorithmic." "Just show me the things posted by people I follow in reverse-chronological order" is an algorithm. "Just show me products that have this SKU" is an algorithm. "Alphabetical sort" is an algorithm. "Random sort" is an algorithm.

Second, there's just so many possible results that it takes a lot of work to sift through the probably-adequate stuff at the top of the listings and get to the actually-good stuff down below.

Amazon spent decades subsidizing its sellers' goods - an illegal practice known as "predatory pricing" that enforcers have increasingly turned a blind eye to since the Reagan administration. This has left it with few competitors:

It's interesting to realise how much of the millennial experience involves having nostalgic memories of things that originated before you were born, or when you were too young to watch, because of how big of a thing reruns used to be.

I'm a Xennial. It is the ‘modern’ label for those of us who were born in the overlapping years of GenX and GenY (GenY is called Millennial today).

Those born between these years are Xennials:

  • 1977–1985 according to Business Insider
  • 1977‒1983 according to The Guardian
  • 1977‒1982 according to Slate

The years of each generations:

  • ???‒??? - The Ancients
  • Anything between “The Ancients” and 1945 have different names, and is usually based on different Western countries.
  • 1946‒1964 - Baby
  • 1965‒1985 -
  • 1977‒1985 -
  • 1981‒1996 - a.k.a. (or in South Korea)
  • 1997‒2012 -
  • 2013‒2025(?) -

There is also what is called . It is a combination of Millennials and GenZ, that is 1981‒2012. “GenMZ” is more commonly used in South Korea than anywhere else.
