@danie10 Agreed! My thought are along the lines of what the Bank of England Governor said last week about AI not leading to mass job losses:

"Economies adapt, jobs adapt, and we learn to work with it. And, I think, you get a better result by people with machines than with machines on their own."

Poor messaging since the disastrous XB1 launch and lack of outstanding (not just "good enough") games is the cause of Xbox's problems, not industry trends. Team Xbox need to look internally, not blame external factors for failures.

Sad thing is, Xbox's 2024/25 lineup looks the most competitive it has since the Xbox 360. Starfield hype massively boosted Xbox sales, over 100% in the UK alone. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to expectations. I know a lot of PlayStation fans that were ready to buy an Xbox just for Starfield. Does show that it only takes a few killer games (Maybe one in the case of Elder Scrolls 6!) to convert a single console owner to a multi.

Side note: I support all the platforms, but it's good to see even diehard PlayStation friends vocal that Xbox giving up on competing* would be long-term bad for the whole gaming industry.

*Wait for full details and all that. Plans sound very much still in flux

@joe_md Xbox is set to launch its big games on PlayStation, where Sony takes a 30% cut

During talks with competition regulators over Xbox's acquisition of Activision, Xbox argued if it launches games on PlayStation then Sony uses that 30% cut to buy exclusives and "try to reduce Xbox’s survival in the market"

Helping Xbox to compete against market leader PlayStation was why the Activision deal was eventually approved by regulators. Microsoft now essentially throwing in the towel on competing by launching games on its rival platform, leaving Sony with pretty much a monopoly

Of course, there are still a lot of unknowns. An event is being held next week to detail specifics. Long exclusivity periods to Xbox before launching on PS would address many concerns, but there's already talk of recent games like Starfield launching imminently and upcoming titles like Indiana Jones launching at same time as Xbox

@joe_md SEGA's exit from the console market was also a tragedy. Mega Drive was my first console and still have so much nostalgia for the Dreamcast

European Parliament's vision for a ceasefire in the Israel-Palestine conflict seems like the only one that will actually hold and provide the conditions to negotiate a two-state solution for lasting peace.

Hamas can't be at the table with its ideological belief in Isreal's destruction. Increasingly clear that Netanyahu also can't be for any chance of success.
