    It's suburban "peeking through the blinds to spy on the neighbors" culture run amok. Technology has given far too much power to busybodies.

    Feeling down because everyone on social media is funnier than you? Don't despair. Instead, find the funniest person you know and eat them. Devouring another human won't transfer their sense of humor to you or anything, but it will give you one less funny person to compete with.

    "Lawmakers and the governor are so proud of themselves that they’ve already branded this misguided way to deal with homelessness “The Florida Model.” But mandating that a class of people exist behind by barbed wire and supervised by authorities in the name of “security” is called internment. It’s incarceration as punishment for being destitute. And, it’s despicable — reminiscent of some of the world’s worst atrocities."

    Podcasts are increasingly polluted with advertisements. I started listening to podcasts because they were largely ad free. I hate ads.

    Hate them.

    Hate.

    Them.

    I will happily become a paying subscriber to a good podcast if it keeps the ads off. But the ads have become more numerous and more inconvenient. At some point someone discovered that folks were simply skipping intros to avoid ads at the beginning and they started putting them unannounced in the middle of conversations.

    Okay, picking up from my video game post yesterday, I'm curious:

    When you play video games, rpgs, ect, where you get to choose your character, do you tend to choose a character of the same sex, the opposite sex, non-binary, anthropomorphic, or a mysterious 4th option?

    If you want to share screenshots of character builds I would enjoy that!

    It's such a great season. I was so pleasantly surprised to see Dave Foley in it and, goddamn, he did an incredible job.

    The show does such a good job picking apart the "muh freedumb" types and how completely full of shit they invariably are and I love it.

    The lack of visibility of trans men and our stories creates the vacuum reactionaries like Pamela Paul push political detransitioners into.

    These people do not speak for or represent female-assigned transgender people. That they are being allowed to do so is disgraceful.

    jargoggles,

    @e_urq
    A big part of right-wing fear mongering has always been "they're out to steal your women and your daughters." It's easy for them to sell their ignorant base on the idea that trans women are really just men disguising themselves as women to prey on girls in bathrooms. It's raw, visceral, easy for simple-minded people to digest and it creates a tangible, obvious enemy.

    Emma Goldman famously said "If voting changed anything, they’d make it illegal."

    People use it to deride the idea of voting. And yet, in the entire history of the United States, there has never been a time where every single adult has legally had the right to vote.

    They do make it illegal to vote because they know that it is an important right. Voting can and does change things.

    No, voting alone is not sufficient, but on top of whatever activism you do, you should also vote.

    jargoggles,

    @ItsTrainingCatsAndDogs
    Totally agreed. Celebration months also don't have the unfortunate consequence of decontextualizing a people's history from history at large.

    And even then, the kind of stuff they teach during Black History Month is such whitewashed garbage, anyway. I had to learn about the Tulsa Race Massacre from a TV show. And you'd think MLK only ever gave one speech in his entire life.

    Good news everyone! I had the honor of receiving Elon Musk's first Neuralink wireless brain chip! I've honestly never felt better. I am energized, focused, and can sense my brain operating at levels previously unreachable by humanity.

    But I must go now, for the Tesla Gigafactory calls to me. I see the glorious assembly line each time I close my eyes. Just the thought of working myself to death there gives me an unparalleled dopamine rush.

    The conventional wisdom in the west over the last 200 years has been singularly focused on one paradigm -- the American dream. Get mine. Get rich. Get out. More. More. More More. More. We glamorize those with excess.

    This is the left's challenge. If we ever want to be politically ascendant again, our sole aim has to be pathologizing excess.

    Personally, it viscerally impacts me. I see a Mercedes and I want to punch the driver in the throat. THE ONLY PURPOSE is to tell the world: "I'm better than you."

    Excess wealth is mental illness. It speaks to deep narcissistic insecurities and sociopathic disregard for the needs of others. It's our job to make this the new conventional wisdom.

    jargoggles,

    @LeftistLawyer
    This reminds me of an anecdote I heard.

    Kurt Vonnegut and Joseph Heller were at a party at some obscenely rich guy's house. Vonnegut told Heller that this guy made more money in a day than Catch-22 earned since the day it was published.

    Heller said something along the lines of, "Maybe, but I have something he'll never have: enough."

    No one deserves to be a billionaire. I don't think people fully understand how big 1 billion is. It would take a cheetah 595 days to sprint 1 million miles but it would take a blue whale 25 days to eat 1 billion krill. Absolutely mind-blowing.

    counterpoint: I saw a 45-second video saying protests bad???

    jargoggles,

    @rebeccawatson
    Fun fact: Bad faith actors do not care how you protest or what slogans you use, because they were never going to be on your side to begin with!

    Focusing on how to please people who are going to ridicule you regardless of what you do is practically meeting them halfway.
