When Trump openly and repeatedly exclaims that migrants are “poisoning the blood of our country,” or shares a video calling for a “unified Reich,” he is literally echoing the language of Hitler.

Trump is not a “populist.” He’s not a “strongman.” He is a fascist.

Use the word.

Do not confuse welfare with Universal Basic Income. If you get $1k in welfare does it make sense to take a $1k job, lose your welfare and end up with the same $1k? No.

If you get $1k UBI, does it make sense to take a $1k job and end up with $2k? Yes.

This is why so many pilots show increases in work.

Beware of attempts to smear the ICC prosecution by claiming that ICC has "equated Israel & Hamas."

ICC has done no such thing. That's not how law works. The law works by comparing a person's behavior with what the law says is legal & illegal. That's what's happened here. Period.

    There's already case law on these sorts of shenanigans: Midler v. Ford Motor Co., so Altman was either ignorant of this, in which case OpenAI needs new counsel, or he knew and did it anyway, because fuck you Scarlett Johannson. I'm pretty sure it's the latter.

    See, the Fediverse has a bit of a Luddite view.

    Okay, but whatever the particulars of Luddism, here’s the truth: it’s left you blind to how you’re being exploited by old technology.

    It’s easy to get up in arms about blockchain and A.I. But what about when certain market makers engage in simple price-fixing of physical goods? Or what about when big corporations buy up a resource to create artificial scarcity, thus boosting demand?

    De Beers has been in that racket for 136 years. Diamonds aren’t rare. De Beers is just a shady company.

    And what I’m trying to say to all you folks is that, if you let it happen, price fixing and artificial scarcity will be coming for physical media too. In fact, they already have.

    You should be worried.

    @rticks It's basically a shakedown scheme. Some of the targets may actually be infringers. But not necessarily. And even when/if they are, these plaintiffs appear to be demanding more (sometimes, much more) than the amount of damages they could recover in regular litigation.
