@linux Sharing a 'small' inconvenience I had to fix with #opensuse#slowroll (I suspect #tumbleweed is the same) - I couldn't launch snaps (spotify, bitwarden) after update - error was: cannot determine seccomp compiler version in generateSystemKey fork/exec /usr/lib/snapd/snap-seccomp: no such file or directory
The fix (I first tried re-installing, didn't work) was to:
a. locate snap-seccomp - was in /usr/libexec/snapd
b. symlink: ln -s /usr/libexec/snapd /usr/lib/snapd
FYI FlatHub uses GitHub Actions, you can check how they build their apps and some of them support reproducible builds, just in case you want to verify GitHub isn't acting maliciously.
FlatHub and AUR can't really be compared in terms of security. Flatpak apps also don't modify the host OS, while AUR packages can.
Personally, I only trust distro packages and FlatHub.
@blogdiva I mean the UN has live translation in their headphones damn it why can’t I have subtitles for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes? (Equally important) 🤷🏾♂️
In the most glorious "fuck you" I have seen in a while, you know the book that Cumberland City Council banned because they're homophobic bigots - Holly Duhig's "A focus on Same Sex Parents"? Well, the publisher, BookLife Publishing, have made a PDF version of the book available for free.
Sure be a shame if it was shared far and wide now, wouldn't it?
Every time you ban a book filled with hope and kindness, and care and love, we will resist.
I saw a post yesterday questioning why the U.S. is investing in projects for electric vehicles but not investing in public transportation. That’s just false.
First, we aren’t getting rid of cars. We are too spread out and it’s doubtful that public transportation will be available in entirely where everyone, everywhere, at every time of day will need it. And we will always need vehicles for emergency services like ambulances and fire trucks and mail delivery and farms. 1/4
@wattdefalk All good. I am someone who cares deeply about the environment and I work in that area. I just want to also be clear that I am very concerned about the health of the planet and think addressing that is the most important issue we have.
@franckpaul@JuBo57 Non, temps réel. Ajouter le temps réel n'est pas un problème, le sujet c'est l'intérêt pour le grand public d'une position temps-réel sur une carte des trains :)

I have a database question - say you have an items table and a messages table, and messages can refer to items. If someone needs to delete an item, you can't because of the foreign reference in messages.
I know you could 'soft delete' - set a status column to deleted, but what if you really need to delete, for example because the content is illegal or the user has a legal right to delete it?
I wish I could tell my ten year old self reading Omni Magazine and sci-fi short stories that in 2024 shit will actually get a little weird, like that time solar flares caused our robot tractors to not plant seeds at the right time, jeopardizing our food system https://mastodon.social/@jasonkoebler/112428406876457168
I still say Trump won't pick a VP. From what I've seen he wouldn't need to pick one legally unless he is elected... I don't see anything about voters getting to know who it would be before the election... or am I misunderstanding these rules.
There is simply no benefit to picking a VP. Too many forces want Trump gone so having a named successor is dangerous for him.
When he dies the world ends as far as he cares, why would he plan for that?
No, I think he will pick someone who he perceives to be the most loyal. A total subservient who can never ever aspire to the contingency of that office.
Normally money would do it. But I think loyalty will matter more.
And someone who WON'T make anyone say "well what if we just had the VP as our president?"
They have to be the kind of person no one would imagine in that office. (Though, for me, that was Trump from day one... so shows what I know about THAT)
We will also need to ask "which group of electors are we talking about?" I expect there will be two or maybe even three if the brain worm doesn't wake up in Robbie's head and he gets busy.
