It is an hour until #MONSTERDON, your weekly monster movie watch party! If you don't want to see a bunch of nerdy monster movie toots, set up a filter for the hashtag.
What are your thoughts on self-diagnosis being belittled by many in the autistic community?
For clarity, I’m not asking to start a debate, just a genuine discussion. I currently don’t have the option to get a diagnosis, but feel fairly confident that the research I’ve done over the past year and a half has been legitimate and credible.
I don’t feel comfortable saying that I am definitively autistic, but I am ok with saying I’m “self-suspecting.” #actuallyautistic@actuallyautistic
@pathfinder@darrellpf@janetlogan@actuallyautistic Even though I’m comfortable with “asexual” and “aromantic”, I prefer using “celibate” to describe myself, even though celibacy is seen as voluntary. I feel like it better expresses how I see myself through my faith.
Not to get into the nitty-gritty, but in 1 Corinthians 7 Paul says “the unmarried” are not concerned with the ways of the world, or a spouse, but the ways of God. I just absolutely love that.
I am curious if the "announcment" feature Mastodon admins have access to is actually useful.
I suspect many people never see them. I think I've only ever seen it displayed in the "official" mastodon web UI. And never in any of the (many) apps I use.
Because Voyager 1 is so far from Earth, it takes almost 23 hours for a command to reach it at the speed of light, and the same for a response to reach us back, for a total of close to 50 hours.
Which means that interactions with Voyager 1, currently around 15 billion miles away, are still faster than many Microsoft Windows updates.
After a long morning of loading the POD, stuffing the car, cleaning, scrubbing, double-checking, all on very little sleep… we’re off! #Canada here we come.
Hey, Mastodon … I’m trying to track down an #AppleNewton developer named Stephen A. Cronin.
He worked at #AMD and operated a software company called TapTech based out of Austin, Texas in the late 90s. I’ve managed to contact his former software partner, Francis Preve … but Francis lost touch with Stephen years ago.
Together they released a sequencer program for #NewtonOS called NR404 and I’m hoping the source code still exists somewhere.
I'm not gonna jump in on that thread about 'all men' but I am gonna say this:
While it's true that not all men do X, it is absolutely more true that patriarchy socializes ALL MEN to accept or be blind to certain truths about their position, importance, and relevance in the world.
Almost everything all men think of as 'natural' about their status in the world is not, in fact, true.
It was crafted through oppression, suppression, and violence.
It is also true that it takes an enormous amount of deliberate de-conditioning to throw off patriarchal thinking and praxis.
Those for whom 'not all men' truly apply (which is a small enough number to be sad and pitiful) know this to be true.
@avoca@DeliaChristina the women who raised you may not have given you those messages, but a patriarchal society (because I guarantee you've interacted with other people) has at least TRIED to get you to internalize those messages. And considering how eager you are to talk over women about the patriarchy, I'd say it succeeded.
godzilla usually like meditates on the bottom of the ocean right, so it's primarily an aquatic reptile, but it seems to come to the surface to reproduce by fucking the red lake in some way, truly a marvel of evolution #monsterdon
@jake4480 Do your demo, and put it up on Bandcamp for free while you work on shit. Get started. I want you to realize this, and if anything, your woman will be stoked, like I said...
@wendigo haha oh, I appreciate it- my thing is though, I need real drums for it. And I do have an idea of some guys I want to help me. It's about getting across the country 😂 after I finish all the Salesforce whatnot. I did plenty of it in my 20s and even 30s - and I learned early on, big long albums aren't the way to go, it's too daunting. Unless you just have a full band. EPs are gonna be the way to go for me. I have the first planned out and working on others. Max 4-5 songs though probably. That's the best way. If you do 10-12 (I did 12 in Nashville) it's fun but the scope of the project gets away from you. You've heard all the stuff at https://souranteater.bandcamp.com right, that's all me haha
Wow. A microbiology lab at Texas A&M accepted purchased raw milk samples from NPR for H5N1 testing, then contacted the milk producers to seek permission. When the producers said, "don't test our milk," the lab not only declined to carry out the tests but also refused to send the samples on to another lab.
@kdnyhan wow. If infected milk helps H5N1 cross over to humans, and creates a new pandemic, we’ll all have these folks to blame for avoiding responsibility
