I follow COVID scientists here on Mastodon. I've seen them post links to studies showing waning effectiveness of COVID vaccines after 6 months.
I received the updated booster last October and want to get boosted again prior to some planned travel in July. (Air travel to the MAGA anti-vax cesspool known as Florida)
I have contacted three pharmacies in my area.
One has no COVID vaccines at all and said they won't receive any until fall.
The other two say they will not vaccinate me because they must follow US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines stating that only people 65 years and older should receive boosters at this time.
They won't vaccinate me even if I am willing to pay out of pocket.
Both say I must get a recommendation from my health care provider before they will even consider it.
Less than 20% of people in my state are up to date on their COVID vaccines. For those of us who want to follow the science and not some arbitrary age limitation, why not let us get vaccinated?
‘Fear more deadly than AstraZeneca’s Vaxzevria COVID vaccine’ | The Australian
"A leading infectious diseases physician says overblown fears about the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine probably caused more deaths than the vaccine’s rare adverse side effects"
"Pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca is reportedly withdrawing its COVID-19 vaccine worldwide. The vaccine was discontinued by Australia's Therapeutic Goods Authority in April 2023 after findings of adverse side effects."
Novavax Prepared to Deliver Protein-based Non-mRNA JN.1 COVID-19 Vaccine in Line with WHO Recommendation this Fall.
"Our most recent nonclinical data have demonstrated that our JN.1 vaccine candidate induces neutralization responses to JN.1, JN.4, JN.1.11.1, JN.1.7, JN.1.13.1 and JN.1.16 strains. Our JN.1 vaccine candidate also produces polyfunctional cellular CD4+ T cell responses to a range of omicron strains including JN.1 and JN.1.11. These responses indicate once again that our vaccine technology can induce broadly neutralizing responses against multiple variant strains, including circulating forward drift variants."
This German guy (60+ yo) apparently took as many covid vaccines as the system let him, which is a lot, 200+ over 2 years, commonly taking multiple shot a day, for many consecutive days. Certainly a lot more than could possibly be useful, but at least, that’s a nice datapoint about the safety of the vaccine. Apparenlty no adverse effect, though hard to state if there is any benefit over a more normal regimen.
💉Covid vaccines are safe, the #antivax movement should be shamed, & their leaders ousted from society:
The vast bulk of the adverse events of special interest did not show any statistically significant increased risk after receiving the vaccines. The size of this study is so large, that it allows the researchers to ID rare adverse events, & they could only find a handful.
Now that the Centers for Disease “Control” have given up on covid, what is the likelihood of spring boosters for the elderly and at risk this year in the US? I saw that UK is getting them, but I don’t know their vax rollout history. . #COVID19#covidvaccine#novavax#pfizer#moderna#CDC
A couple of days ago I went to the hospital to get the latest Pfizer vaxx (it took a half hour for them to "hunt it down" in the pharmacy). Nothing has changed. A couple of medical types wearing blue masks and a couple of lay types in baby blues. My own (elderly) doctor, an immunologist/allergist has given up wearing his respirator. I was the only one in an N95.
With this latest trip I see things failing at the seams.
My naked-faced pharmacist refuses to stock the vaccines because of lack of demand and insistence by the health bureaucrats that she take up a big batch; to her, it's a total loss, and too much of a hassle going through a lot of new hoops and protocol. At my hospital allergy clinic the other two doctors have given up giving shots because of the red tape and paperwork, as now you have to be "specially credentialled". Meanwhile, my doc casually states that there's an "epidemic" of COVID in Toronto.
Currently, I'm sitting here waiting for the critical incubation period to pass after over an hour in a stewing Petri dish….
It also took me two and a half months after the vaccine was made available to finally get an appointment because there was no vaccine and when I was scheduled at last, they weren’t sure if it would be available that day or not. :hair-on-fire:
So.. let’s an additional step to an already overburdened system.
Meanwhile the doctors have already spoken. “Alberta's doctors have been raising the alarm in recent weeks as respiratory viruses have been surging.” #COVIDVaccine#Alberta
Core info: the NHS booking platform will allow ANYONE to book a #vaccine appointment if you answer "yes" to "do you regularly look after someone who is ill, an older person or disabled?"
Most pharmacists are not interested in policing who is getting jabbed, & will give you a bonus free #flu jab* too ✨
*don't sleep on this either - we've a few more months of flu season, & flu is no joke 🤒
🇦🇺 Australia’s reworked molecular clamp vaccine for Covid-19 has cleared early stage human testing, potentially offering one-stop protection against a range of pandemic viruses.
University of Queensland scientists in technology that hit the wall at the height of the Covid pandemic in 2020 when the original Clamp vaccine returned false positive readings to HIV.
Things I’m noticing in friends/acquaintances I interact with:
-hair loss in women (severe enough to see bald spots/sparse part)
-really bad cough (the kind that rattles through)
-self-reported constant fatigue/exhaustion
-frequent “bad colds”
But I’m the only one continuing to mask and test, the only one actively trying to get the updated booster and the only one still pointing to news articles about it. #covid#COVID19#CovidIsNotOver#covidvaccine
That’s a wrap for tonight! #Jabapalooza to give #CovidVaccine and #flu shots to my dear high risk patients. Oldest today was 104 (he was delighted with the lollipop!), youngest was 6 months. Sent each person home with a box of RATs, and masks for those without. #ShabbatShalom
