"I came here to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of gum!"

I just spent 3 hrs & 70% battery power, talking to my old gaming buddy in NY state.

It's his birthday. We stayed friends, even though I stopped when Windoze 10 took away Sound Drivers & coding needed to play legacy games.
We were heavy competitors, often playing all night, or gaming weekends, on private servers.

I haven't played a FPS (1st person shooter) since. I Miss it!

I feel like I did '10 games to know me' before on here but I can't find the post, and I've met so many more of you cool people since then. So here's 10, not even sure it's the same 10. Probably close. What are yours?

Wolfenstein 3D
Diablo (1 & 2)
Centipede
Black Widow
Wizodd
Plaque Attack
Felix the Cat
Rogue
Gun Nac
Duke Nukem (1 & 2)

Today (December 3rd) in 1993, Duke Nukem II was released for DOS. 30 years of this killer installment of the king. It's only one of the greatest platformers ever made.

Edit: totally forgot you can play it FREE via DOSGames.com (DOSBox): https://www.dosgames.com/game/duke-nukem-2

I was always a geek.

In Windoze, I'd drop to DOS to move around.
When I encountered Win95, I had to wait?
"IT IS NOW SAFE TO TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER"

I made the on/off decisions, I didn't like it already, so I uninstalled it and went back my old DOS6.

Life was good. Duke Nukem ran on DOS.

Shareware version 1.0 of Duke Nukem 3D was first released on this day (January 29) in 1996.

Today, you can download it or play it online in your browser (both free) here, via one of my all-time favorite sites on the web (that also has SO MANY other games), DOSGames.com:

Hail to the King, baby.

Over two decades ago, Apogee was thinking about doing a Duke Nukem film. Arnold expressed interest, but they were leaning more towards Howie Long.

The future of 3D Gaming will never be the same - prepare yourself for the Ultimate Slugfest!

Happy 28th anniversary 🎂

"Unlike anything we have played before."

"Look up and down!" 🤯

"A graphical Masterpiece!"

"RemoteRidicule™ allows players to send pre-recorded taunts to their opponents".

I bought the (free) shareware version for 5,99£ in London's fancy Virgin Megastore - I know.. 🙈 but at least I've got the CDROM in a box to show you 😄

Photo of the back of the game box and CDROM for the game "Duke Nukem 3D" from 1996, shareware version with review snippets, some small pixelated screenshots from the game and some features. Examples and noteworthy snippets: The future of 3D Gaming will never be the same - prepare yourself for the Ultimate Slugfest! "Unlike anything we have played before." "A graphical Masterpiece!" "Look up and down!" 🤯 "RemoteRidicule™ allows players to send pre-recorded taunts to their opponents". 18 - suitable for persons of 18 years and over 3d Realms US Gold, Installations instructions in French.

🎙️ George Broussard interview

「 If you’re exclusively an adventure gaming diehard, the name might not immediately strike a chord. But for fans of 90s action games, George Broussard is a living legend. Among his many notable career accomplishments, he’s the co-founder of Apogee Software and its subsidiary 3D Realms, a key player in the shareware movement, and perhaps most famously, the co-creator/designer of the iconic Duke Nukem series 」

Amongst the smatterings of not even half finished Duke Nukem maps in the DNF2001 leak there were a lot of fragments of Duke's penthouse. I thought it would be fun to recreate one of these fragments in the Doom 3 engine with borrowed assets from the leak, and the results weren't half bad.

Duke Nukem 3D through EDuke32 is freakin' awesome. A massive step up from the regular DOS version (still love you dosbox).

Thanks @jeze3D!

Duke it Out in D.C.

Oh no! Those alien bastards (from space) invaded Washington DC!

Duke Nukem 3D with a U.S. Government theme like you might imagine in any action film taking place there.

Made by Sunstorm Interactive who also came up with deer hunting games. (Yes really)

So yeah um, the levels are okay. I especially enjoy the Smithsonian level since I like wandering around in a museum.

Duke Nukem 3D

The premiere 3D Realms first person shooter.

You got an inventory and interesting weapons.
Duke himself will quip plentifully and make various references to pop culture.

I'll point out ESRB's M rating which includes strong sexual content. It is suggestive without actually being pornographic.

I recommend the Atomic Edition over the 20th Anniversary incidentally (not that those extra levels are bad).

Duke Caribbean

Duke Nukem's The Beach Episode

This is my favorite Duke Nukem 3D expansion by Sunstorm Interactive. All the weapons are pallete swapped to fit the theme, and the enemies are all dressed up too.

Surf some waves, soak up some sun. Bring your super soaker to the water park. And then there's some lost ruins and junk? Nothing every really follows up the plot of official expansion packs to my knowledge.
