Fediverse help me

I'm looking for a COTS or MOTS option here. I can do some soldering if need be.

I am looking for a DC input charge control board for some batteries. Ideally 12, 24, or 48 volts, and at least 100 Watts. 2 stage constant current/constant voltage, of course.

I have searched high and low and everything available is an AC/DC converter. I specifically want a DC input.

Anyone know if mttp chargers are acceptable to use with DC voltage generators?

I prefer the bar chart view, it seems even more precarious to me.

I've done nearly everything I can personally do. , 7 years ago. , 6 years ago. Switch to , 5 years ago. Testified for bus lanes and better service. Other life changes too.

I was even the coach for for my community years ago, we got over 100 homes solarized.

But it doesn't seem to be working. Sigh.

I am considering getting an electric car, but I cannot have home charging (No off road parking)

I live in Reading, and commute (drive) back and forth to London a couple of times a week, round trip of ~85 miles.

Is it still absolute madness to be 100% reliant on public charging points?

(Bearing in mind that in 7 years time, you’ll no longer be able to buy brand new petrol vehicles)

Looking for recommendations for home EV chargers. I can go to 50 amps, well more but that seems to be the max for home chargers I have seen.

Interesting moves in the changing space lately (in the US and in Canada).

It sure would have been nice for the US to mandate some open charging standard years ago, but it seems that everyone is coalescing around 's so-called NCAS "standard".

Right now, it seems to me that NCAS is not actually a standard, but rather, an open specification.

Hopefully, this gets on an independent standards track.

Closed standards are bad for consumers.

I wrote a long post about trying to use an EV for a road trip holiday across Wales. It was not easy (and it was not exactly by choice!)

I learned a lot, and it was quite frustrating. But hey, we made it!

Mostly what I learned was the public charging infrastructure needs a lot of work.

So, those chargers on the that were broken/offline for the holiday weekend (6 of 7 chargers)?

reports that they aren't getting fixed. Just not coming back online.

I love my , I really do--but it is very hard to convince others that they are ready for prime time. Sigh.

Unfortunately for us in , the nation and its huge auto industry, particularly , is irresponsibly late to the game.

Story time, from long ago.

This is a story about competitiveness in the US.

About the Manufacturing USA initiative.

About the MxD innovation center in (formerly known as DMDII).

And, about my frustrations that have festered for some time.

Out of respect for some of the people that I know personally that were employed there (who I will not name), this is a story that I had kept to myself for some time.

But now it is time to share, for a variety of reasons.

adamjcook,

It is important to note that has long and substantially subsidized their industry. China has also exercised a considerable degree of central state planning and control... some of which, like and production and its associated supply chain development, are paying dividends today.

The US is not really structured for that, well, politically.

So, the institutes embrace a common approach - the public-private partnership.

This is great and all, but we really need to build ways for people to get to Downtown without driving and for people to get around Detroit without owning a car…

I am fine with charging infrastructure for street parking, but not city-owned surface lots.

Surface lots should be seen as temporary, never permanent.

About 80 percent of new cars sold in Norway are battery-powered. As a result, the air is cleaner, the streets are quieter and the grid hasn’t collapsed.

We achieved more than 4 miles/kWh without much effort.

For comparison, I just calculated my April 2023 energy cost for my 2017 BMW i3 94ah. I bought it used in 2020 for $19k. It had only 13.3k miles on it.

I paid an average of 13.8¢/kWH for all the electricity I used.

I averaged 3.4 miles/kWH, 4.1¢/mile.

watson,

There’s a ton of EVs disabled from Ian. As those batteries corrode, fires start. That’s a new challenge that our firefighters haven’t faced before. At least on this kind of scale. https://twitter.com/JimmyPatronis/status/1578050503279316992

It takes special training and understanding of EVs to ensure these fires are put out quickly and safely. Thanks to @NCFRPio for their hard work. https://twitter.com/JimmyPatronis/status/1578077502483873792

Some dealerships are selling the new electric Hummer for up to $250,000.

Brand new electric Hummer, which is getting sold in some places for up to $250K, gets completely demolished after trying to do basic offroading that most high end trucks, like a Raptor or TRX, could easily handle. Truck only had 19 miles on it.

electric vehicles may be mass implemented one day when technology catches up.

just like the early days of cell phone batteries. neither affordable nor practical for every day uses.

it has to happen in its due course and organically.
