Hmmm is #discourse (the software) a popular/desirable thing?
There's a #wordpress plugin for it and I've been thinking of adding a proper #Forum to https://sirtaptap.com but the plugin hasn't been updated in 9 months and one of their 2 'see it in action' example sites no longer uses it (or has comments at all)
I do like that it's got a self-hosting thing, and BBPress...I just didn't like the look of but it can probably be adjusted.
There is #BBPress but it seems...less forumy? Than I expected. I Dunno. I'd like to include some form of forum on sirtaptap.com in the most natural and least I-Have-To-Do-Work way possible
#Flathub deserves a set of more performant and native applications than being attributed to a page in #Discord's playbook. Stay with me: are we really just going to blindly accept #privacy flaws of this messenger and promote it at the same time?
The fact that it only has got to the head of Discord it's long overdue to verify this popular #Flatpak distribution, I think, is worth a comment on itself, but I'll digress. It is nice that #OpenSource enthusiasts made arrangements for this verification and I have zero disagreements with the result. I'm just stupified that, in all this effort, Discord is treated like some spoon-fed royal baby - at least, according to reactions I see.
So, what was it... Flathub already had a library of nice actively developed #FOSS#applications before these news. I don't see the point in exaggerating the scales on some centralized chat thingabob with well-known #ToS and #telemetry problems, that's all. Thank you for visiting my #dRBBoard talk! ❤
Oh, what a dummy, sweet summer child me... Entrusting one feature (that goes astray from #SynchronousSoftware and VoIP nature which this piece of garbage was supposed to keep focus on) with link aggregation and presentation: I'm speaking of Discord's forum threads.
After a week of quality time with #Matrix, I return to #dRCS "server" (Discord's term for group) to check up on #forum channels. Lurking, scrolling through this joke of a bulletin board in search of older posts proved futile. Most of the #threads are simply gone! It took me long enough to make these pretty cards, now for them to evaporate without any communication from Discord...
You know what? I'm done with #CentralizedPlatforms that bite more than they can chew, all the while trashing my content! #Discord, #Reddit - shut the front door!!!

Sometimes I really miss the structure old forums had. Not just the way they organised conversations but also how each website had a forum and that the website was the main landing page and the forum was a fun side activity.
So a friend approached me with an intriguing #question that I feel must exist in some form:
Is there a way to use #email chains as a database for #forum-like experiences? Email the server to get a list of forums/topics, then subscribe to have the server send new messages to your email & you can add to it by replying. The goal is to not require people to have yet another website+login to keep track of.
I know about #LISTSERV, but it's way too expensive to just try out/use with a small group!
1/2 Not sure if this is utopian. But I'd love to see some kind of #linuxaudio#daw and #plugin#knowledgebase, #taskforce or #forum for #developers emerge. Because while I think it's absolutely fantastic that more and more vendors are making their products available for #linux, some of them are #bugplagued to say the least. 🫣️ In addition, many of these vendors offer limited or no Linux support. Maybe more experienced developers like #uhe, #tal or #bitwig could lead such an effort?

When using a #forum, and you quote a post, do you expect to be able to edit the post (i.e. to add emphasis, truncate unnecessary parts, etc.)?
It's possible to structure quoted posts like "references", so a reference to a deleted post is also empty. This has advantages when it comes to the #GDPR Right to Erasure, but may be a grey area (is a quoted post still YOUR post?).
