Other people are going away for the (US) holiday weekend, barbecuing, hiking, whatever. I'm hauling gravel. The garden show is a month from yesterday. The countdown is on! I'm terrible about taking "before" photos but trust me this is a big improvement. And why yes, that is an electric on the right there in photo 1. 5 stars. Would recommend.

A photo looking the other way. A gravel path between a low retaining wall on the left and another one on the right, ferns and shrubs on the right as well. A massive tree trunk in the distance left and a huge ceramic vessel which had been featured in other posts. A blue wheelbarrow at the end of the path.

The big rhodo is the last to bloom. There are lots of bees buzzing in it but it's a little blustery so they are not stcking around much for a photo :)

Now that I’m growing both varieties, I can totally tell the difference between soft neck and hard neck garlic.

The gardener casts a long shadow upon his garden plot! I was out preparing the section of the garden where the Cucurbits will be going and I could not resist taking this whimsical self portrait!😀

Well, let's try boiling the nopal today versus just eating it raw or quickly cooked...

ai6yr,

The main advantage of boiling seems to be:

  1. Tenderizes older/larger cactus pads.
  2. Removes some of the "sliminess", if you are not a fan of it (I like it, myself).

I will likely continue to quick cook mine, EXCEPT when I have older, tougher nopal I want to cook, where the boiling breaks down the toughness.

Tip: Scramble the eggs separately, adding the eggs to this, the eggs bind to the liquids and makes cactus-tomato-egg-drop-soup, LOL. Which is fine, but not what I was aiming for.

That one morning I got more raspberries than I could eat. I had 8 raspberry bushes in a hedge along my driveway that kept me busy all summer long. Needless to say much of them went into jams and pies.

Well, the lost cockatiel is off to a vet that helps lost birds find their humans. In other news, the rose cutting I took a coupla years ago has its first bud ever. Not sure what colour it is - my practice is to take pruning lengths & stick them in compost, then hope for the best. Seems to work well. @gardening

Interesting, saw someone selling rooted grape cuttings at the farmer's market at $30 each. (I have so many in pots in my backyard which I cannot give away, LOL). #gardening #grapes

My first attempt to root some Concord grape clippings is going well. Hoping to revive my dad’s ancient arbor that was down to only 2 vines.

Big time hog wrestling between 2 males. The bully hog got himself a drink, then went back into the hut, leaving the other one to forage for about 10 minutes. Then out he comes again, rolls the other hog away, gets a drink, & back inside. The attacked hog continued to forage after the 2nd battle, then wandered off home. @gardening

20 second video. Outside at night in front of a hedgehog feeding hut. A hog forages in the middle of the screen, with a toad house to his left & the hut to his right. A second male comes out of the hut. As he approaches, the first slowly curls up until, when the second males attacks, the first male is in a complete ball that rolls across the ground.

Suggestions on pollination methods for indoor chilli plants are more than welcome.
