Look. Real talk.

I like Governor ’s leadership in in general and I completely understand where this is coming from… but we need to get super aggressive in significantly reducing our dependency on .

Like, right now.

It is not coming back anywhere close to where it was at its peak.

Zero chance.

are not a growth industry, nor should they be.

adamjcook,

Or… aggressively build out local and regional opinions here in and ?

I don’t want to hear about “the roads” anymore.

Roads have scarred Detroit and incalculably harmed this state.

Why are we not building track systems and trainsets here in Michigan - including high-speed, maglev rail tracks and trainsets?

’s doing it. We can’t? Why not?

We can’t build new US industry here in Michigan?

Let’s get serious.

It’s not going to get any easier later.

Biden’s decision to negotiate spending cuts in exchange for a debt ceiling bill pretty much ensures that we will go through this every year (or so) until the fall of America.

adamjcook,

@KatM @samlitzinger Others have said it (perhaps you already have as well?), but I think the answer really lies in getting out the vote at the local election level, starting now.

We got alt-right crazies here in that, having lost the Governor's Mansion and the Statehouse, are increasingly infesting school boards and city halls.

But, even outside of that, we need to find ways to elevate fresh faces to DC... a Congress that we know and can connect with.

I am working on a longer "response" to this.

In my view, and have assets and vast pools of human creativity and talent, here, already studying and living in the state and city, that are being tragically underutilized.

This article presents some ideas, but they are far too crude and high-level to be actually useful.

That needs to be honed quite a bit.

Back in my hometown!

First time since 2018.

adamjcook,

Whelp.

Stuck for 30-40 minutes just outside of Battle Creek, .

I could not make out what the actual issue is but the Battle Creek station is apparently not clear due to another delayed train and we must wait until it is cleared.

Sounds like a choke point that needs to be fixed.

adamjcook,

On the move.

42-minute delay.

@straphanger Oh. What a fun read!

I can only hope that the City of and , officials would internalize this.

We are making progress, but not enough progress and the approaches described here fits Detroit like a glove.

I will be bringing it up.
