Not as brightly colored as some of my other aurora photos from Friday, but I liked the mood and composition of this one.

Benny Beagle got his first ever taste of oyster sauce after dinner in the form of some sauce from tonight’s stewed eggplant. I’m pretty sure he’s decided it’s the most delicious thing of all time. Alas, he’s now heartbroken that I told him that was all he gets tonight.

April 23, 2024. Wolverine Lake, Michigan.

A startled beagle gives the side-eye and asks, “What do you mean there’s no more for me?!”
A sad, sorrowful, starving beagle has not received more oyster sauce. He cranks up the puppy eyes and asks, “DO YOU NOT SEE ME STARVING BEFORE YOUR VERY EYES?!!!!!”

A post about Old Bay with a sketch of an Old Bay container because that's the sort of thing I do...

I've finally started to sort out the eclipse photos from my big camera. This came just a few seconds after my diamond ring photo, so let's call this a ruby ring.

I'm not completely sure what's going on here to create the red color. I think the red is from the Sun's chromosphere. Then maybe the red is being refracted then scattered a bit by the high cloud cover we had during totality. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

We just got home from our trip into Ohio for the eclipse. I've begun sorting out eclipse photos. Here's a nice one as totality hit: a diamond ring! If you look closely you can also see a solar prominence on the lower right, around four o'clock.

Came out to do chores this morning to find the livestock guardian dog blissfully napping on the compost pile. (He is supposed to sleep in the barn - he recently chewed through his metal cable lead, and last night he apparently learned how to open horse stall doors. Which would be fine, except we live near a busy road and he's not the brightest bulb.)

Had a really nice snowy walk in the woods with him yesterday. Maybe the last day of snowshowing! I'm so ready to be done with winter...

A large yellowish dog walking along a path through snowy woods. The sky is blue and the trees are all bare, with white bark on the trunks.
A yellowish dog walking out in front of me across a snowy field surrounded by woods. The sky is blue with a few small, puffy white clouds.
A yellowish dog up ahead of me on a path, sniffing something on the ground. There are bare trees on either side of the path, and the shadows of the trunks are draped across the pathway. The sky is blue above.

@sundogplanets Ahhh, nice warm, smelly decaying compost. Who wouldn’t want to snuggle up for a nap?**

ME: … and so, Benny, with all of that barking, and baying, and howling, that’s why I decided to cut the walk short and bring you home.

BENNY: That was fun! Let’s do it again! I’ll bet I can be even louder!

There was still some pretty color left in the sky when I was coming home from grocery shopping this evening. So I stopped by the road ending down the block to check it out. Worth the stop.

  1. Lavender Light. April 21, 2023.

If this looks familiar it's because I've posted a few other photos from this sunset. The surface of the lake was a mirror. The light swept through many colors in mere moments.

(This is not the purple sunset I posted at . That happened in November. It was a good year for violet in the skies.)

  1. Purple Fadeaway. November 5, 2023.

One of the most colorful of the year and a total surprise.

I want to take a moment to thank @JayIsPainting @jayispainting for starting the #ArtAdventCalendar and carrying it over to Mastodon. I love seeing everybody's work!

My #Top25Sunsets countdown is out of sync with the advent countdown this year, but the entire year has been out of sync for me, so why not this, too?

After a couple days off, let's pick the countdown back up with this lovely moment from April when the clouds above and the mirror smooth lake below combined to draw golden lines across the sky.

Not much more to say about #21 in the countdown beyond that the title. I love this pure orange sky.

I stopped here with a friend of mine on our way back from dinner, since it looked like a nice sunset. It turned out to be much better than nice.

This was a surprisingly good sunset photo from my iPhone. One other iPhone sunset photo made this list. You'll get to see it in the top five.

. "Must be in the front row." McGulpin Point, Michigan. August 15, 2023.

You've already seen this sunset in the honorable mentions. This was our vantage point. Monique and I took a much needed few days of vacation and found an excellent place to sit and watch. From this little rocky beach we watched freighters come and go in the Straits of Mackinac and were treated to one of our favorite sunsets of the year.
