"To get on the path to #NetZero, we must rebuild most of the physical energy #infrastructure of this country. And we need to do it with unprecedented speed.
It took us about 150 years from the days of Edison,Tesla, and Westinghouse to build today’s #grid. Now we have to double the grid’s electricity generation, using only new, clean resources, in just three decades."
We are looking for the most imaginative solutions to advise Welsh Government and Plaid Cymru on 10-year deliverable plans from 2025 to 2035 for achieving net zero.
The ”Net-zero” environmental policy we’ve seen take a large part of the brunt to bear is basically accounting. The accounting magic trick allows fossil fuel companies to expand their production, ”offsetting” their carbon capture sometimes up to the year 2070.
Mixed feelings on #Budget2023 but overall positive. It's at least a companion to #Biden's historic #InflationReductionAct & likewise invests solidly on #Canada's businesses fighting the #ClimateEmergency. That's important. By my crude math it's at best 1/3rd of the battle.
Folks that didn't like the phrase #WarOnClimate probably won't like #NetZeroArmsRace either but what an interesting place to be in these increasingly dark times: nations competing & alliances forming to save the world rather than blow it up. Count me in

That said, with our next provincial election upon us & none of our major political parties talking #EnergyTransition whatsoever, the data says Calgarians actually get it, aren't afraid of it & think we oughta get to work LEADING ON IT.

Eigg isn't connected to the UK national grid. Instead we generate 90% to 95% of our electricity from wind, sun, & water (hydro). Community-owned Eigg Electric was switched on in 2008. Islanders are trained and employed to manage it. Electricity costs 28p per unit/kWh. Before 2008 each property had its own diesel generator. Now we have 24kW of wind, 110kW of hydro, 170kW of solar PV, storage batteries, and a back up generator. Next challenge is #netzero#renewables#eigghttp://isleofeigg.org/eigg-electric/
