Hey I'm Alicia, an artist who really hasn't been feeling social media lately (especially IG and FB) so I thought I'd try Mastodon out and see if I like the simplicity of it more. I think I picked the perfect server, since I'm much more likely to be in my sunny garden than anywhere else. :BlobCat_Love: 🌞
For #PhotoMonday / #FotoMontag a commission to capture some reptile friends. Crested #Gecko s have such fascinating Sauron eyes. CW for #reptiles in close-up
I had a close encounter with what I believe to be a rattlesnake yesterday and I'm still a little freaked out every time I think about it. I was getting some macro shots of a candy barrel cactus and when I turned around it was right there, maybe 3ft from me. I have no clue if it snuck up on me (probably unlikely???) or if it was there the whole time. #reptiles#snakes#herps
📷 Snake in the driveway, Wednesday about 6 PM. I'd been to town, was walking to the house and remembered I'd left my glasses in the glove box and turned around.
"Jesus Fucking Christ!"
Neighbors on the porch across the street who heard me but didn't see the snake looked away real quick and pretended they didn't hear my blasphemy! 😂
Kaka'ako Gecko, photography. This is the actual color of this cheeky fellow, no photoshop enhancement! He was hanging out in my favorite flower shop in Kaka'ako on Oahu. The shop is called Paiko.
Wondering why I haven't posted any photos in a while?
I was just building a stock of a little over 5000 photos. It will take me a while to post shots of my wonderful trip. Here is a preview.
Can you guess where I was?
Today's random portfolio artwork is "Wrong Place Wrong Time," which shows the moment of death for one of two Sauroposeidon. This was my first ever Zbrush sculpture illustration (2012).
Back in the day, toddlers in Florida were often posed with giant stuffed gators.
This is my mom. I have to wonder how the little ones felt about all this. Probably scared sh**less.
Correctly name (genus) all 6 super-giant sauropods and I'll put your name in a hat to win a copy of the book with a sketch in it. Deadline is Oct 31. Post your answers below or DM me.
DINOSAUR BEHAVIOUR: AN ILLUSTRATED GUIDE
By Prof Michael J Benton, illustrated by me.
AVAILABLE OCTOBER 31
Into the year 2001. My old landlady commissioned me to paint some sharks, so I chose two Squalicorax and a Cretoxyrhina eating a juvenile Tylosaurus. I later chose to Photoshop the mother tylosaur into the composition.
In 2003 I decided that if I was daft enough to limit myself to palaeoart, I should be able to supply clients with 2 and 3D reconstructions. I started with Diplodocus (London NHM), but I never finished it.
I illustrated several books in 2004 (via the Beehive Illustration Agency). One of them was PLANET DINOSAUR, by Steve Parker and Miles Kelly Publishing. I will post the five main paintings (acrylic on card) throughout today. Third is the Late Jurassic.
In 2004 I played with a book idea but never took it to a publisher. I did 100 draft drawings for the proposal (never completed), I'll post a few more throughout today. First is Archelon.
Excited to spot an Equatorial Spitting Cobra (Naja sumatrana) moving in the mangrove at Pasir Ris Park, Singapore, on 25 June 2023. A group of us watched it from the boardwalk.
A 2008 piece depicting Corosaurus. The only purpose for this was playing around in Photoshop and learning how to create painting and photo composite art.
