If you want proof that how people act on the internet is pretty much the same as it's ever been, back to ARPANET in 1984 no less...

What was the last printed magazine article to publish detailed plans for building your own computer, and when was it? 1990s? Early ‘80s? I’m talking about plans with detailed schematics and PCB layouts, like the Mark-8 or COSMAC ELF.

It’s not every day I get to play with a Xerox Alto thanks to the people at The Computer Museum in Maryland! I suck at Missile Command BTW. Great exhibit space and worth a visit!

okay I'm not sure how to get the attention of any local people involved with the network BUT

a localtalk-talking laserjet just showed up on Free Stuff on Seattle craigslist and I thought maybe someone might be interested:

Dang that old IBM Model M is huge on my desk.

Does anyone happen to have some grey Model M keycaps they no longer need? Specifically the Right Ctrl, Left Arrow and End keys, since mine seem to have gone walkabout sometime in the last 33 years.

The MSX classic The Maze of Galious was actually Knightmare 2.
An interesting feature of the game depended on what was inserted into the MSX's second cartridge slot.
If the first Knightmare was in, you could resurrect your companion 99 times. If there was Q-bert, you started the game with bonuses like extra gold and a full health bar...☺️👍🕹️

One of the best games ever, imho. Still find myself whistling the soundtrack from time to time.

This is an IOCREST-brand USB to RS-232 serial adapter, which I bought from a seller on AliExpress. It arrived in exactly the same time as an identical eBay listing said it would, for literally half the price - if eBay is still your default go-to for weird stuff like this, keep in mind dropshippers are probably fleecing you.

This adapter contains an FTDI chipset, not the much cheaper CH340, and it's time to see if this is the reason I couldn't get serial mice working natively on Windows 10.

So, question: Can I get some suggestions for software / tips and tricks for recording and reviewing raw data coming off a serial port? I'm a very long way from trying to reverse-engineer a novel protocol myself, but that's the eventual goal, and the next step I'd like to take is compare what I'm seeing coming out of a serial mouse with documentation online to make sure I really understand what's going on and how all this works.

Uh... ? boosts welcome.

And, yep - with Windows 10 told to enable serial mouse detection on boot, all you need is the right kind of adapter installed and a serial mouse plugged in when you boot up. Here's the FTDI-derived one working with my Microsoft Home serial mouse - you can see the adapter blinking to say it's receiving data when I move it around.

Short video of an old Microsoft serial mouse plugged into a USB to serial adapter. The adapter is blinking green whenever the mouse is moved to show it's receiving data from the mouse.

Finally got my performa 6200 to run. Reason was a faulty Cache/ROM-DIMM that I replaced with another faulty DIMM. The third one is working 😀

In early 1993, Commodore hadn't released hardware specs for the new AGA Amiga computers. So me and my game dev partners decided to create a demo trilogy, using self-discovered AGA chipset features.

The second demo was called 'Mindwarp', and I still love to listen to our music composer Ramon Braumuller's 4-channel soundtrack.

84-24 is a beautiful -- both technically and visually --account of restoring an original . A good cozy engineering read for first morning coffee.
