What will make the #eclipse spectacular tomorrow is #solar activity. With the #photosphere blotted out by the moon, we will be treated to a view of the larger solar atmosphere including outbursts from its surface. This #SOHO image is in #ultraviolet but bodes well for immense activity off to one side of the #sun tomorrow.
The other treat is, of course, seeing #space (stars, etc) during the daytime.
"The Alliance Defending Freedom has been busy this year. Its senior legal council, Matt Sharp, has been on the move, parachuting into different state courthouses to testify or voice support for some of the record-shattering 501 anti-LGBTQ bills that have been introduced in legislatures this year — more than 70 of which have passed into law."
On Monday a client called me because the back door of their business had become a haven for homeless people…
This local retail business has just one location. They’ve been there for several years. Originally, the owner had me set up the guest Wi-Fi network as an open network. He wanted his customers to be able to just click and connect. Okay – I’ll make recommendations for better security, but ultimately I get paid to do what the business owner decides to do, so open Wi-Fi it is.
Time passes… homelessness in this city goes up… and now homeless people are spending the night by his back door. His employees don’t feel safe when they arrive for work, park their cars in back, and approach the door.
Conversations happen. It turns out the homeless people like that location because they can connect to the free Wi-Fi. So I got the call to put a password, or encryption key, on the guest Wi-Fi. Now, customers inside the business will be told what the key is.
We’ll see if this is effective. I think there’s some possibility that I’ll end up training an on-premise employee how to change the key once a week.
It’s nice when clients mail their payment promptly. It’s even nicer when they include a thank-you note. I received this note with a check a couple of days ago.
BTW, I pay a referral fee when I receive the first check from a new client, so if you recommend me to someone, be sure they tell me your name.
#AMD Launches The #EPYC8004 "Siena" 4th Gen #EPYC Processors Review
Overall the EPYC 8004 series "Siena" processors are quite interesting and open up Zen 4(C) EPYC to new markets at lower price points and TDPs than what is targeted by Genoa. Siena is very complementary to Genoa(X) and Bergamo and fills a nice void between them and then AMD #Ryzen for more budget-minded and #SOHO/#SMB#server deployments. https://www.phoronix.com/review/amd-epyc-8004-linux
