So if you get this using an adblocker on YouTube, I'm finding that going into incognito mode works for keeping ads down and not worrying about being blocked by youtube #youtube#adblock#adblocker#incognito#workaround
With #youtube not only blocking #adblocker usage, but also showing two minutes (2 MINUTES!) of ads before a video, I guess my video consumption will soon take on similar proportions as my twitter consumption. 🤣
Anyhow, I started following more folks from #peertube and also signed up for #nebulatv because @notjustbikes and some others publish there.
And this is what you get after you "free" 3 videos: youtube blocks the playback of next videos. This is on Firefox with uBlockOrigin #youtube#adblocker#block#ads
Son of a nutcracker! 😩
Looks like #YouTube is winning the #AdBlocker battle
(Tried purging #uBlockOrigin cache again, but no go 😒)
UPDATE:
Looks like it might've been the "Enhancer for YouTube" extension that I was also using (for auto-cinema mode, etc.). Disabling that seems to have gotten me back in the game.
Just got my first "It looks like you're using an ad blocker" popup message on YouTube. I was about to watch a video but decided instead to close the tab that had YouTube open. Google sucks. 😒 :youtube: :google:
"Sęk w tym, że takie rozwiązanie jest w Unii Europejskiej nielegalne. Żeby zablokować adblocker YouTube musi wiedzieć, że takie oprogramowanie działa na komputerze czy telefonie użytkownika. A żeby to wiedzieć musi „pogrzebać” w twojej przeglądarce – sprawdzić czy takie narzędzie jest zainstalowane i działa na twoim urządzeniu. I dokładnie tego nie wolno mu robić"
OK so I just got off a call with the DPC - the strategy has worked, it has been noticed and they are investigating.
They have received a lot of complaints since I went public with mine yesterday which is starting to overwhelm their backlog.
So I am now politely asking if people can pause on sending in further complaints until mid next week to give them a chance to try to resolve this issue.
Trying out #NoScript to block the loading of #Javascript on websites. I honestly don't know why I should use it, but it is fun to play with. Really speeds up loading times at least.
This is the latest #youtube "innovation". #Google with a market cap of $1.7 trillion and $120 billion cash on hand, "needs" to charge for ads on YouTube.
This is, of course, not true. They have more than enough revenue to run YouTube without ads in perpetuity, but they want to please shareholders. The #Peertube community is showing how you can distribute the costs of hosting content as well. If you don't support Google's continued monetization of monopolized video...vote with your feet.
