People who have not tried to code solutions using AI: "It's really easy! Developers are going to be out of a job!"
People coding solutions using AI: "In the case of neural networks, we restrict the search to a continuous subset of the program space where the search process can be made (somewhat surprisingly) efficient with backpropagation and stochastic gradient descent."
Cat Rat Boy cared whether he was more boy than rat or more rat than Cat. The madding crowd, however, only cared about setting him on fire. #AI#Midjourney
Microsoft's msn.com has done posted a fake news story again, this time featuring a story from a dodgy Indian entertainment news aggregator that made the laughable claim that Katie Ledecky came out as a trans woman.
This is far from the first time Microsoft, who fired their human team and replaced them with an algorithm, has boosted a completely fake story, and it's the second time I know of that the false story concerned the trans community. #AI#trans#News#journalism
So, while the Mediterranean is burning, the Global South is devastated by the effects of climate change with millions of lives on the line, the Design Council UK sends a newsletter titled: 'Can AI save the planet?', publishing ChatGPT article prompted by the question 'Can #Design save the planet?' accompanied by a DALL-E generated image that looks like the architecture dystopian renders that colonise the web since the beginning of the 2000s
Let's start by answering some questions that apparently the Design Council deems very important and profound:
'Can AI save the planet?'
No. AI is an advance statistic computational tool, while the environmental crisis is a socio-political problem that has less to do with stats and more to do with culture.
Silicon Valley wants us to believe ChatGPT and other AI tools will usher in a wonderful tech utopia (unless it destroys the human species).
But those narratives distract us from the truth that generative AI isn’t about making the world a better place. Its goal is to enrich investors and reduce the power of everyone else, and we need to recognize that before it’s too late.
Btw the best #AI tool I have found so far is perplexity.ai. I'm sure it's evil in some way but I have never found the exact information I needed on a gigantic publisher's website this fast before.
(Also if you just really need sources to a question that is WAY too complicated for google to handle... I never look at the text output tbh except if I'm asking it what the fuck a TV show I only just heard of is about)
I always loved technology and it's exciting to see what potential applications LLMs like Chat-GPT have. Unfortunately... one application I really don't like is how the internet is being flooded by absolute dog shite quality "articles" and "blogs". I hate this so much 😭 it's contributing to how Google can't find good results anymore AND makes the internet worse #ai#gpt
Many orgs are seeking to use AI effectively as outsourcing, avoiding "high" person costs.
🔮 Prediction: the use of AI as an outsourcing tool will fail for the same reasons that cost-driven outsourcing always fails: poor customer experience, lack of tight feedback loops, and information void "black boxes".
@matthewskelton Automation to cut costs is not going to bring long-term benefits. Your customers don't care how efficient your processes are.
The best automation initiatives free up time from people, not to cut costs, but to give people more time to improve the customer experience. That is what your customers care about.
@matthewskelton There used to be an ad campaign by a brand of road-side gas stations in the Netherlands in the 90's, with the tagline: "gasoline smells the same everywhere -- but the toilets don't!"
I like to rephrase that as "Everyone has administration -- but not everyone has the same time for customer experience!"
