New video from @anderspuck about #Wagner forces in #Belarus & the chances they might attack #Poland & #HybridWar
And here I was half expecting a(nother) video from him about #Ukraine hitting the #Russia'n #Navy in the#BlackSea (again). Things are happening so fast #YouTube'rs can hardly keep up! 😄
Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo has stated that Russian and Belarusian athletes will not be welcome at the Olympic Games to be held in the French capital this year.
The head of the private Russian military company #Wagner will move to neighboring #Belarus as part of deal to defuse rebellion tensions and the criminal case against him will be closed, the Kremlin said Saturday.
Yevgeny #Prigozhin’s troops who joined him in the uprising will not face prosecution and those who did not will be offered contracts by the Defense Ministry, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. #Russia
If this is true, then Putin's position is even more miserable than everyone thought. After you deliver a decisive speech of "severe consequences" for the "traitors", why ask a president of a neighboring country for mediation? This implies you have no power to deal with the situation on your own.
Prigozhin reportedly confirmed the talks were taking place, but he denied any deal was agreed as suggested by Lukashenka. After all, what could Lukashenka offer? "Security guarantees"? Prigozhin's security is guaranteed by his soldiers, not by word of Putin whom nobody believes. And in exchange for what? Swearing for allegiance to Putin again? None of that sounds feasible.
Here's what The Counteroffensive is reading today:
Due to the increased #Wagner presence, #Poland will deploy more troops to its border with #Belarus after two #Belarusian helicopters entered #Polish airspace at low altitudes, hampering radar detection.
According to the UK Telegraph, Belarusian dictator Lukashenko is 'having trouble' controlling Wagner forces from attacking Poland that fled to Belarus after the supposed failed coup by Prigozhin. Wagner is supposedly calling to take Warsaw.
This, along with threats to Poland by Russia that any attack on Belarus is an attack on Russia. Fun times.
Does anyone know of any good analysis of #Belarus role as an up and coming malevolent geopolitical player? Everything about Lukashenko gives me the screaming fantods.
The Polish Border Guard stated that a few days ago shots were fired for the first time from the territory of Belarus; a service car was damaged, and it is not known for certain which weapon was used.
With Lithuania and Poland considering closing the border to Belarus due to the risk of Wagner troops causing trouble, I wonder about the Belarusians who flee Belarus through these channels.
While many Belarusians were able to seek asylum abroad during the 2020 protests against Lukashenko's regime, those who have been jailed and released fled later (they need help -- many are traumatized), and the situation is still terrible there.
Self-proclaimed Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has once again sent greetings to the Ukrainian people on the Independence Day and hinted that Belarus could help achieve peace, even though he helped Russia attack Ukraine and its capital.
Serious talk for a moment.
Since 2020 in #Belarus
💔 at least 38k people have been detained;
💔political prisoners have been sentenced to 5300 years in total;
💔 over 100k people have been forced to leave the country.
My friend is a political prisoner. Currently, he's basically doing slave labor — 6 days a week with no payment. I mean, technically, there is payment, it just amounts to literally a few dollars a month. 1/3

The Slovak Ministry of Culture announced the resumption of cooperation with Russia and Belarus.
