This is pretty big news for me & my friends. These are all still demos, but I have all 11 tracks for This Cassette Kills Fascists laid out!

Listen to This Cassette Kills Fascists, an album by #ArtFed

https://on.soundcloud.com/HpV8i

I have a whole to-do list after listening to it on repeat. 😅

This will fit on one side of the cassette, which leaves Side B free for all of the original tracks without the dialogue and my screwing them up, lol. The intention is for people to make mixtapes and remixes of any and everything on the album.

The whole album will be releaded under a CC-BY-SA 4.0 creative commons license to enable this.

How does magnetic tape work?
:thinkSpin:
Specifically for recording sound?

I can use a light microscope to see how the stereo data is encoded into the grooves.

An SEM can show the individual magnetic particles that make-up the tape, but then what?

Now that I own a player again, I learned that there are still albums released on tape, occasionally. Too bad this one costs $60, worth more than the entire "music center" :D

Another vintage deck rescued from oblivion. This time it's the absolutely rock solid top of the range NAD 6155 from the late . This was the one I wanted when I was 17, but I had to settle for the lowly 6220. I loved that thing ❤️

This is an order of magnitude better. Massive flywheel, huge dynamic range and the uncluttered industrial design that is one of the reasons I love NAD gear. First appearance of Play Trim that improves playback of pre-recorded cassettes.

She's a keeper.

Front view of the NAD 6155 cassette deck on my kitchen worktop. It's a large grey box with knobs, buttons and LEDs on it!

So here's a storage case filled with I won on ShopGoodwill.

Pretty damn good haul of music with a solid storage unit.

My buddy Stuart mailed me a of Mark Guiliana’s LP Mischief that he’d bought in at one of Mark’s shows.

It’s cool as hell.

But I no longer own a cassette deck!

Question: are the the kids playing these on cassette decks and in car stereos like we did?

FREE CASSETTE DECK!

Here's the deal: I have too many decks and I want to give one away, along with 20 cassettes.

Why? I love the format, I love the ritual, I love the analogue warmth, and I love introducing people to what tape sounds like on a really good deck. The fully serviced Sony 3 head Dolby S deck has a headphone socket, so you won't even need an amp or speakers.

only (sorry) and all you need to do is reply with what you want to play on it and I'll pick one.

Easy!

Taylor Swift is not just dominating vinyl sales and streams, you could also buy the album on cassette.

I now have one of these: a eraser. It not only comes in handy for audio tapes I want to re-record, but also computer tapes as well. Just tried it and it works like a charm! Now where is that defective Theatre Europe tape I have? I can finally clear it and dump a fresh image onto it, which will then hopefully work. Anyway, glad to have this!

Music prices in late 1980’s

$7.99 - $12.99/Budget $4.99 - $9.99
$6.99 - $9.99/Budget $3.99 - $5.99
$14.99 - $18.99/Budget $7.99 - $11.99

That’s the reason why I don’t accept today’s prices. So absurd.

Single records prices in late 1980’s:
• 7” vinyl 45rpm $1.99 - $3.99/Budget $0.99 - $1.99
• Cassette Single $1.99 - $3.99/Budget $0.99 - $2.99

And in late 1990’s prices were inflated: had the same cost as an full-length album.

The the records companies complained about piracy. Seriously that’s so ironic.

Seen from an artist at their site today:
• Vinyl record: $39.99 - $49.99
• Cassette: $34.99
• Compact Disc: $ 16.99 - $19.99

The problem today: not only the prices are ridiculously high, but they are uneven.

Prices of the records in my country today:
• Vinyl record: $84.99 and up
• Cassette: $37.99 and up
• Compact Disc: $37.99 approximately

That’s a big insult to the music lover.

My love for the audio is well documented, but every now and then I take things up a level. There's nothing quite like the sound of an open reel tape, recorded direct from the original master (or in this case, the archive safety tape*).

Many people say that is the ultimate way to play music, but the music they're talking about was almost always originally recorded onto tape.

This beats vinyl.

*Now playing: Billy Idol's criminally overlooked concept album Cyberpunk.

I did a thing.

A related thing.

Okay, I'll tell you, but stop begging - it's embarrassing for both of us and everyone who's watching.

I've obtained a Limited Manufacture Licence for some iconic music tracks to be released as an album of and cover versions on and

Now I just need to find some interested artists to join me in this ridiculous endeavour.
