FREE CASSETTE DECK!

Here's the deal: I have too many decks and I want to give one away, along with 20 cassettes.

Why? I love the format, I love the ritual, I love the analogue warmth, and I love introducing people to what tape sounds like on a really good deck. The fully serviced Sony 3 head Dolby S deck has a headphone socket, so you won't even need an amp or speakers.

only (sorry) and all you need to do is reply with what you want to play on it and I'll pick one.

Easy!

Any UK fans want a freebie grab bag of cassettes? I have...erm...a somewhat sizeable stockpile...of tapes that I need to thin down into a smaller, more curated collection.

Here's the deal: you give me a genre, list of artists, or a time period and I'll try to include at least some to suit. The rest will be selected at random from 4,000 items.

I'll send you 15 tapes (you tell me how many you want) for a fixed postage cost of £5.

That's it. No tricks. Just free tapes!

Please boost.

I'm not looking for new vintage gear right now, but when a friend gifts you a desirable one owner from 1985 that's in close to new condition and doesn't need any work, it'd be churlish not to accept, right?

These component boomboxes are a bit of a unicorn in that they're small, fully featured, can take a input and actually sound excellent.

New video! I'm repairing and restoring a 1977/78 Sansui SC-1100 tape deck. Replacing the belts, recapping the boards and doing lots of cleaning and lubrication. Link: https://youtu.be/pgC-ewegKlk

Anyone know any that might want to release my "Volando En El Cielo" on ?

My love for the audio is well documented, but every now and then I take things up a level. There's nothing quite like the sound of an open reel tape, recorded direct from the original master (or in this case, the archive safety tape*).

Many people say that is the ultimate way to play music, but the music they're talking about was almost always originally recorded onto tape.

This beats vinyl.

*Now playing: Billy Idol's criminally overlooked concept album Cyberpunk.

Radio Irrtum! announcement

(again… as every month!)

↓↓↓ German version far below the English one ↓↓↓

RADIO IRRTUM! is back ! \o/ Saturday, 2024-02-17 at 8:00PM (UTC+1) at Alex Berlin/FM 91 MHz/DAB+ Ch.7D, or via stream: https://www.alex-berlin.de/radio/15-live-auf-91.0

Irrtum! is a German language exploring the sonic vastnesses of the . Emitted transmissions will raise your attention for new unheard all over the genre spectrum from all over the world. Btw.: Forget about that German language aspect - it's all about the music!

And this time the topic of the whole is "hitter of crinders" (should be a fair translation of "Blocküren von Tieren") which by the way has absolutely nothing to do with anything that will happen during the show and indeed makes no sense at all. Just as I like things to be.

As there will be:

Because always feels connected to open social networks, lots of mighty' n world dominating Fediverse artists will be featured, like @xylander, @limebar, @Lara or @rrrrroseazerty ! Because of your great music!
Also then and when. Because if you ask me, the music industry as we know it has to die.
As always I'll post playlist and manuscript later here (provided I’m at home, else it will come up the day after). And if you have questions about the music – I'll gladly answer! Just ask!

C U all tonight! :)

↑↑↑ English version above, the German one is still below ↓↓↓

This is the next #cassette deck in the queue for refurb. The #JVC KD-85 is a real rarity in the UK, particularly in 'native' 240V form, rather than an import from Japan or the US.

It's a hell of a thing for the #70s (1978) and the #tape transport is one of the best ever made. Definitely a rival for any #Nakamichi I've owned when it comes to playback.

Overhead shot of the internals of the JVC KD-85 cassette deck. It's a sea of circuit boards and the chunkiest tape mech you're likely to come across.

A friend came over yesterday and was incredulous to learn that I've swapped out my expensive gear for a late 70s all-in-one Panasonic music centre.

The truth is, I'm now listening to and enjoying more on and than I have in a long time.

Alan Parsons has a theory and it feels like he may be onto something:

"Audiophiles don’t use their equipment to listen to your music. Audiophiles use your music to listen to their equipment”

I'm listening to music again.

I did a thing.

A related thing.

Okay, I'll tell you, but stop begging - it's embarrassing for both of us and everyone who's watching.

I've obtained a Limited Manufacture Licence for some iconic music tracks to be released as an album of and cover versions on and

Now I just need to find some interested artists to join me in this ridiculous endeavour.

This unassuming late JVC RC-N5 is surprisingly heavy and well made. It looks like a basic portable radio, but it has a secret deck built in!

Black JVC boombox with integrated moulded handle. The machine has clearly expanded horizontally, opening up to reveal a hidden yellow handle extension and hidden cassette mechanism in the centre.
