You know, I really miss Raptr: the service that allowed you to track, compare, and share game achievements and play stats cross-platform. I wish I had something like Letterboxd for games, something I could use to centrally catalog my vast cross-platform game collection, track my backlog, and organize my collection, and also use it to shit-talk achievement comparisons and completion stats with my son.
Woke up this morning thinking about playing GTA V. I have a PS4 copy that I bought in 2016 and it works on the PS5. It's been an hour of updates and still waiting here to play. I've had two cups of coffee and now re-thinking why I even bother with this gaming stuff on console these days.
It's sad because that initial exciting feeling of playing disappears as soon as the console turns on and updates are required.
@atomicpoet#Consoles are also fairly self-contained appliances with a fixed cost designed for shared living spaces. A successful console platform can play compatible #games for its entire life without upgrades and the tinkering that comes with a general-purpose platform. That’s a compelling value for many people.
And I say this as someone for whom tinkering is the #game sometimes.
I’m really sorry that your #NintendoSwitch repair was so expensive. But it’s a vast leap generalizing that to a condemnation of all #consoles for everyone.
@atomicpoet Also, it’s self-contradictory for a PC gamer to shut down on #ConsoleGaming, an alternative that suits other gamers, when the entire point of #PCgaming is to cater to individual choice
I really enjoyed the #ManifoldGarden game. There are only a handful of special rules in the game mechanic, but combined with the wonderfully architectural (and infinitely mirrored/repeating) level designs, it made for a beautiful and engaging playing environment. The soundtrack is wonderful as well.
It gives me the same vibes as #MonumentValley: Stylized, almost monochromatic architecture, replete with visual paradoxes.
It was $20 on the PS5 store and I think it’s worth it. It’s available for almost all platforms.
OC No, you’re NOT a real gamer.
