This is Gu, who is from a shelter in New Mexico and is around 5 years old. He is a dog therapist, and has a caseload of 10ish dogs who come over to hang out because he calms them down. He has logged thousands of miles on trails, and has played long games of tag with ravens, squirrels, and coyotes. As a dog who grew up in the desert, he is absolutely obsessed with running water. #petintelligence#dogsofmastodon#dogstodon
“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
The birds never noticed the suet cakes in the 2-sided suet cage so, inspired by a cat owner who groomed his cat then stuffed his suet cage with floof, I did the same with dog fur when I groomed my dogs, big dog's short undercoat on one side, little dog's long undercoat on the other. The birds ignored it till March, then emptied it overnight. I could see the fur sticking out of the birdhouses till they tidied up. Now we're counting down till the eggs hatch. #catstodon#dogstodon#birds#birbs
The adoption of mixed-breed or rescue dogs helps reduce the demand for puppy mills and backyard breeders, which often prioritize profit over the welfare of the animals. By adopting, you are not contributing to these practices.
When you adopt a dog from a shelter or rescue, you are giving a second chance to an animal. You are literally saving a life and providing a loving home to a dog who deserves it.
Significant scientific evidence indicates that raw flesh diets are often associated with dietary hazards, including nutritional deficiencies and imbalances, and pathogens.
The evidence to date indicates that the healthiest and least hazardous dietary choices for dogs, are nutritionally sound plantbased diets.
Reposted from @desivegandog Because fungal proteins are closer to animal proteins, fungi are an appropriate food for pets and humans. Koji and many fungal proteins contain all 10 canine essential amino acids in greater concentration than cow flesh.
We can grow fungi sustainably, using a fraction of the resources and land needed for cow, pig and chicken flesh - or even fish!
