"What Google is doing is literally following you around with every single online activity you do, collecting that information, & using it to build a profile on you. It’s basically a surveillance machine unlike anything we’ve ever seen in human history." – Proton’s CEO, Andy Yen
@protonvpn "You must enable DRM to play some audio or video on this page"
Sorry, not gonna happen. Maybe there is some other source where is is possible to check out this interview...? #DRM#noDRM
@EeveeEuphoria the problem may not be the intricacy of the DRM, I'm pretty shure it's not even close in complexity to the #Robocop on #Amiga dongle or some shitty #AlwaysOnlineDRM.
It's just that those capable would do it for fame and/or profit, thus they are motivated by more popular titles on mainstream platforms than exotic and weird havkjobs of arcades...
I.e. I'm shure Data East's DECO (tape-based) Arcade #Dongle-#DRM didn't get hacked (yet?) because it ain't interesting...

You can also set up an account on Libro.fm then go to libro.fm/gift to gift yourself (or others) instead of buying them at list price the vast majority of audio-books can be bought at $15 a piece w/ book credits. You do not have to subscribe to the book of a month to get them at $15. And you can start out getting just a two book credit bundle and use them when you want. Good way to get #drmfree book at a decent cost. #audiobooks #drm #audible alt.
Hey #MSNBC! While you were going all in on your own player in your app so you could implement #DRM, you neglected to provide a RW, FF, or even a BUFFER if I choose to pause! You even couldn't implement a #PiP function that works correctly all the time!
Go back to the built-in #Apple player! It has that shit built in!
Just so everyone knows, when they did this, they disabled #TVEverywhere! They also enabled #DRM across ALL of their O&O channel lineup!
Last night, as a result of me fiddling with a Blu-Ray audio CD that I received as part of a collection that was destined for the dumpster, I decided to re-read how to play Blu-Ray region locked content on a Linux system again with fresh eyes.
My previous attempt, failed when I got to a page which blocked me from playing my legally acquired with my capitalist tokens Liz and the Blue Bird disc, because my player was apparently not in the right region.
Digging around a bit last night, I found out PC Blu-Ray players are region free by design, so that meant the region-lock error was probably erroneous.
You know that famous “Best #printer 2023: just buy this #Brother#LaserPrinter everyone has, it’s fine” article in #TheVerge that says, “It does not feel like the CEO of Inkjet Supply and Hostage Situations Incorporated is waiting to mug me or enable #DRM at the slightest provocation”?*
If you buy an #HP#printer and sign up for the optional HP Plus #service, you'll get a #firmware#update that will FORCE you to #purchaseonly new HP #ink cartridges — for the life of your printer. And once that firmware update happens, there is no way to undo it.
Further proof you don't actually own your phone: #Android begs you to delete files you downloaded intentionally to make room for "data" put there automatically by apps. This "data" can be cleared by you, but not without also deleting your logins. You're actively punished for using your #phone.
Flashback to this blog post from former campaigns intern Leonardo Vignini intern which details the history of #DRM: where did Digital Restrictions Management start, how did it get this bad, and what can we do about it? https://u.fsf.org/34ghttps://defectivebydesign.org
#DRM isn't just an annoyance -- it's a violation of your right to use the items you own as you see fit. Learn more about our Defective by Design campaign at http://defectivebydesign.org, and follow our campaign account at @endDRM
Most people just don't appreciate just how important #copyright is to #art and #artists. Thank god Mozart and Beethoven had #DRM and Content ID policing on their songs or else they would never have made a name for themselves. Also thank god that famous fairytale writers like Hans Christian Anderson, Brüder Grimm and Charles Perrault had their content copyrighted for eternity, or else an evil corporation like #Disney would totally have stolen their stories and gotten rich off their work!
My partner purchased the new Zelda game and #Nintendo won't let me play: "this user is not authorised to run this game". Even though it's on the same device in which where she plays. Only one user can run it and only one savegame slot. I can't believe Nintendo would expect cohabiting family members to purchase multiple individual licenses, this extreme #drm is ridiculous.
If you've followed my work for a long time, you've watched me transition from a "#linkblogger" who posts 5-15 short hits every day to an "essay-#blogger" who posts 5-7 long articles/week. I'm loving the new mode of working, but returning to linkblogging is also intensely, unexpectedly gratifying:
Back in 2016, @bunnie and #EdwardSnowden released the #IntrospectionEngine, a separate computer that you could install in an Iphone, which would tell you whether it was infected with spyware:
But while there are some really interesting positive applications for this kind of software, the negative ones - unbeatable #DRM and tamper-proof #bossware - are genuinely horrifying.
